RETIRED AND RETIRED RESERVE OFFICERS. THE LAW. 14:95 G (2): The provisions of this Section shall not apply to any law enforcement officer who is retired from full-time active law enforcement service with at least twelve years service upon retirement, nor shall it apply to any enforcement officer of the office of state parks, in the Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism who is retired from active duty as an enforcement officer, provided that such retired officers have on their persons valid identification as retired law enforcement officers, which identification shall be provided by the entity which employed the officer prior to his/her public retirement.

3 The retired law enforcement officer must be qualified annually in the use of firearms by the Council on Peace Officer Standards and Training and have proof of such qualification. This exception shall not apply to such officers who are medically retired based upon any mental impairment. (3)(a) The provisions of this Section except Paragraph (4) of Subsection A shall not apply to active or retired reserve or auxiliary law enforcement officers qualified annually by the Council on Peace Officer Standards and Training and who carry valid identification on their person as active or retired reserve law or auxiliary municipal police officers. The active or retired reserve or auxiliary municipal police officer shall be qualified annually in the use of firearms by the Council on Peace Officer Standards and Training and have proof of such CERTIFICATION .

4 40 (A) (3): No fee authorized under the provisions of this Section shall be assessed on or collected by the Council on Peace Officer Standards and Training . PROCEDURES. 1. A) If a retired officer was certified at the time of retirement and has not experienced a five-year break in full-time law enforcement service, the officer need only qualify with his weapon. B) If the retired officer failed to maintain his Firearms qualification, he must successfully complete the Pre-Academy Firearms Course as prescribed by POST. 2. Submit a completed PC-14 form to POST, using a check mark to indicate whether the individual is retired or retired reserve. Also use a check mark to indicate whether the individual completed the Pre- Academy Firearms Course or re-qualified.

5 3. All PC-14 forms must bear the original signature of the POST Firearms Instructor who conducted the Pre-Academy Firearms Course or re-qualified the individual. 4. POST will send Proof of CERTIFICATION (cards) directly to the individuals listed on the forms. Check the information for accuracy and legibility. 5. CERTIFICATION expires one year from date of qualification. Once a retired officer is certified by successfully completing the Pre-Academy Firearms Course, annual re-qualification by a POST Certified Firearms Instructor is required to keep the CERTIFICATION current. The grace period is the entire month of qualification, not the exact qualification date. 6. It is the responsibility of the instructor to maintain all records and documentation relating to the Pre- Academy Firearms Course and/or re-qualification.

6 Records shall be maintained in a secure area. 7. If the period between re-qualifying exceeds thirteen (13) months, CERTIFICATION shall lapse and the retired officer shall be required to attend the Pre-Academy Firearms Course prescribed by POST to reinstate their CERTIFICATION .
