Transcription of Coordinator’s Guide – SuperHeroes VBS - freewebs.com
Coordinator s Guide SuperHeroes VBS This is going to be one super week! Concentrating on super powers that we receive by God, because of Jesus and through the Holy Spirit. We can ALL have these powers . Each day, in addition to our super power, we will see how a specific super hero in the Bible used that power as an example for us to do the same. High energy, in the Word, and building disciples are the goals for the week. Here are some ideas/information to help this week be the most impactful possible! Stations: Power Center Sanctuary/Large Group gathering for openings and closings There will be 6 stations this year, we are breaking story and snack apart, and the schedule will reflect shorter station times. The snack will be the shortest, and will always precede the Bible Force time, which will be a bit longer.
Trust us it will work and make sense on the schedule! Bible Force Bible Activity led by Nate, in the Sanctuary as well Recharge Snacks - not part of story time this year Operation: Crafts Action Games Mighty Movies super Stories this year it s own station Group/Station Breakdowns: Recommend Preschool program be for children that have completed one year of preschool usually ages 4 and up. The curriculum is tailored to 4-6yr. olds (preK-Kindergarten). It s up to you if you d like to add younger just know it s designed for this age. The recommendation for Elementary groups is that the kids are going into 1st-6th grade (exceptions are fine those older than that will not have a problem fitting in to the oldest group). Consider offering a nursery for those too young to be in a group just for the volunteer s kids.
This is GREAT way to show your volunteers you are in tune with their needs, and it will probably give you more volunteers! For those with less than 40 elementary kids: We will have 6 stations this year, and have 3 groups. Groups would be 1st/ 2nd, 3rd/4th, 5th/6th unless registration numbers for certain ages would make it change. For those with more than 40 elementary kids: There will be 6 different stations and 4-6 groups. Keep in communication with us about this. The goal is not to have more than 15 kids per group if possible. For those with more than 100 elementary kids: There will be 6 different stations, but may have up to 10 locations and/or groups. We will work with you individually to set up the schedule that works with the number of kids, based heavily on your facility.
ALL MATERIALS AVAILABLE ON WEBSITE On the website you will find ALL materials needed, including this Guide , volunteer information and sign up sheets, registration forms, all preschool curriculum, craft, game and snack ideas, schedules, all sorts of graphics, etc. If you can t find it there please let contact us and we ll get it up there and/or to you. We HIGHLY SUGGEST you print everything out and make a 3 ring binder with all the information, and then it will be easily available for you to pass on to others. 602-391-6215 Coordinator s Guide SuperHeroes VBS Promo Ideas: Always keep it in your mind that this is a GREAT outreach tool.
VBS is the easiest, and one of the only, ways people from the community will want to come to you! You will be receiving glossy flyers to post on your church campus, as well as in the community. You will also receive business card size invitations that people from the church/school can take to give to friends, family, and neighbors. Have a banner made and put in a location visible to traffic passing by-it REALLY works! Advertise in your local newspaper, or online community events page, Facebook, etc. Find out if there are other churches in your community not having a VBS who would want to promote to their congregations or even if they are having one and give them the info. Have a group from the church ( youth group, outreach board, small group) pass out black and white flyers door to door in the surrounding neighborhood/community.
Make sure it s up on your website, in your bulletin and newsletter The more you involve the whole congregation and make it a big event, the more they will invite friends and family! Registration/Day 1: Have as many kids registered BEFORE the first day as possible. Day 1 registration/check-in is ALWAYS a bit hectic. So having as much done as possible before then is great. Try to have 2 lines - one for those already registered, one for those not yet registered. Have some sort of marking in the Power Center (Sanctuary) that clearly shows where each group/age is sitting. This helps everyone know where to go from the beginning. ( dowel rods at the ends of rows w/sign attached on top, signs taped to pew, etc.) Mission Offering As always, the VBS offering will go towards a mission project of YOUR choice.
If you have a local project you would like to support, please do. Just let us know in advance. In the past, if you have participated in supporting the mission of Groundwork Guatemala, we encourage you to continue with this. As we work very closely with this ministry, and lead mission trips there, McAvoy Family Ministries, with the past VBS mission offerings, have been able to sponsor 2 ministry workers and one boy! We would share their pictures, their letters, and our experiences with them in person and the offering would go to their sponsorship. The boys/girls competition seems to be fun AND brings in the most money for the mission project so let s go with it. This year we will add something more for Mon, nickels for Tues, dimes on Wed, quarters for Thurs., and dollars and anything goes for Fri.
Notes: There will be a take-home item, similar to the ticket last year, which will communicate the theme of the day, as well as any announcements. This is a great way to connect the parents at home with what we are doing all week. We are here to be a resource to you so use us to the fullest! Take a serious, prayerful look at some of the other ministry options for the week to see what may help the mission of your church. If cost is an issue PLEASE talk to us about want the ministry to happen and God will provide the rest! Please remember that we are here to PARTNER with you have ideas that you think would work better for your church with certain stations, etc., please communicate with us. 602-391-6215 Coordinator s Guide SuperHeroes VBS 602-391-6215 Decorating Guide for SuperHeroes VBSS uperheroes VBS a place where all heroes can come together to learn, worship, play, and train to be heroes for God, anywhere a child s imagination takes them (front porch, child s bedroom, attic), full of bright colors, fun props, and everyday items found in a child s room or play area, and as simple or elaborate to decorate as you want it to be.
You choose! Use items found in your church, home, garage, or closet! Be creative Ideas to Get You Started For your Power Station stage area (large group gathering): Project the Superhero VBS logo onto a piece of plywood, sheet, or large object. Trace and paint to use as the main part of a backdrop. Ask children what they would imagine seeing at a superhero power station/headquarters. Use bright, colorful furniture (kid-sized or over-sized). Use props such as Slinkys, colored tins, and flashing lights. Find bigger-than-life items such as large clocks or toys. Have a garment rack full of superhero capes. Use bright fabrics, paneling, or sheets of roofing to create your backdrop. Add a Life Focus poster to the set each day. Some props from Mission and Mega-Challenge activities can be added.
Cut out and display large H-E-R-O letters. Use the logo, superpower bursts, etc. on walls, silhouettes, doors, any advertising Have an outside banner made (WORTH THE COST) using the logo. Put up outside the church at least 2-3 weeks prior to VBS. Use large appliance boxes to make buildings for the stage or throughout the building. Use strips of bright paper to create colorful rows on a wall. Have colorful balloons all over for even more effect have them printed with the hero logo OR super power bursts. Fabric, aluminum foil, or other craft items can be used to create walls, props, arches, and entrances throughout your building. Look at the retro superhero cartoons for ideas. Hang crepe paper streamers or wide ribbon from classroom ceilings to add color to the rooms. Check out Prom decorating sites for pre-packaged decorating items.
