Corrugated Gaskets1 Corrugated Gaskets mN/mm2N/mm2 v v Corrugated Gaskets are universally usable sealing ele-ments. Due to the different possibilities of manufacture inthe form of rings, ovals, long ovals or frames, which can bewith or without ribs, holes, and fixing loops, the field ofapplication for these Gaskets continuously expands. Thegaskets can be completely or partly covered. For the use onrotating flanges these Corrugated Gaskets are equippedwith momentum in case of unmachined flanges, a satisfactory tight-ness could be achieved with adequate flexible soft Gaskets can be produced in all usual sizes up toapprox. 6000 mm. Smaller Gaskets (up to 2000) are madein one piece, larger Gaskets and special frames are weldedfrom to the particular method of manufacture the corrugatedstructure in the zone of the seam is not influenced. Gasketsshould always be used with layers.

Due to the fact that thesupporting ring is Corrugated , the layer remains in Gaskets are also suitable for vacuum three main variations are named:1. All-metal Corrugated Gaskets without layer2. Corrugated Gaskets with layers3. Corrugated Gaskets with cord rope layersCorrugated Gaskets without layersare Corrugated metal rings as per profile W1 with corruga-tion pitches of 3 mm, 4 mm, 5 mm or 6 mm. The corrugationpitch and gasket height depend upon the diameter andwidth of the gasket. For small diameters and small widths, there exist smaller corrugation pitches than for large diam-eters and large widths. The Gaskets height amounts toapprox. mm up to an outer diameter of 150 mm andapprox. mm for larger Gaskets without layers require high surfacefinish and levelness of the flanges, as it is a pure metallicsealing Gaskets with soft layers,as per profile W1A, consist of a supporting ring W1 withboth faces covered with PTFE for applications up to 260 0C,or graphite up to 550 0C.

When mounting, the soft plasticlayer settles into the corrugation recesses. This means, there results an extraordinarily high elastic sealing elementwith low leakage rate. The leakage rate if at the samesurface pressure, is several decimal places-lower than thatof fibre- Gaskets or Corrugated types with cord rope to its good sealing characteristics, this type of gaskethas proven to be an excellent substitute for asbestos , respectively Corrugated Gaskets with asbestoscord rope layers (which are no longer used because of theasbestos restriction). For large diameters and gasket-widths and also for flangeunevennesses, it would be advantageous to use RivaTherm-Super on both sides. From which the gasket obtains greaterstability, and also adaptability. RivaTherm-Super layersare made of exfoliated graphite with special steel foil identification mark is, for 1 mm thickness RS1E1, mm RS1,5E1, and for 2 mm RS2E1.

The layer width forRivaTherm-Super should be at least 15 mm. The requiredtype of layer should be W11A are Gaskets with bare centering edge. Forlarge diameters (more than DN 1200), we recommendprofile W2A respectively profile W12A. These gasketsare equipped with a stabilization ring to which W1A gasketsare attached on both sides. Therefore, they retain theirshape, and are fully adaptable to the flange surface. Thegaskets can also be equipped with an inner rim F1, forexample profile W1A Packings Expansion Joints Rubber and Plastic MaterialsAluminiumMineral FibreCu, MsMineral FibreCarbon SteelMineral FibreStainlessSteelSteelMineral FibrePTFEC arbon SteelMineral FibreStainless SteelGraphiteCarbonSteelProfileW1 W1AW3, W5WZ3 W8 W1A W11A W7, W13WZ13F1 MaterialsRecommended max. surfacefrom6,3 25 50 50 50 50 6,3 25 Roughness of flange surfaceto12,5 50 100 100 100 100 12,5 50 Limits of surface pressure120 15 30 35 45 35 75 20for 20 C600 180 80 110 150 150 150 180 Limits of surface pressure130 20 (40) 45 60 45 70 25for 300 C390 150 (60) 90 125 125 125 150 Corrugated Gaskets2 Corrugated GasketsCorrugated Gaskets with cord rope layerwill be equipped with suitable cord rope layers to meetapplication requirements.

The cord rope of Gaskets , as perprofile W3, is fixed by means of adhesive in the corrugationrecesses of the supporting ring W1. Depending upon thepurpose of application, different layer materials are rubber ropes are proven as the best for tempera-tures up to approx. 80 0C and PTFE ropes of unsinteredPTFE up to approx. 260 0C. Mineral fibre yarns can be usedup to temperatures of more than 500 0C. When using cordrope layers of rubber or PTFE highest requirements oftightness can be realized. When using mineral fibre yarns, only a lesser degree of tightness can be achieved. Mineralfibre yarns, with or without impregnation are inferior com-pared with asbestos yarns (used until before) because themineral type has coarse single W7 is equipped with an inner W8 is metal jacketed but open outside. Metaljacketing can be advantageous at high temperatures, andrestricted space because metal jacketing protects thesensitive layers when mounting.

The disadvantages forsealing, are the relevant parameters of metal is drawn to the particularly good sealing charac-teristics of the Corrugated gasket profile WZ3 with sealingzone. Between the inner and outer cord rope (of mineralfibre yarns), there is arranged a zone of incompressible, butplastically easy to deform unsintered PTFE or RivaTherm-Super. From which results a surface pressure concentra-tion in the middle of the gasket, which leads to very lowleakage rates, and which can also withstand flange the Gaskets are not covered with cord ropes acrossthe whole width, and therefore have an outer centeringedge, this is identified in the type mark, by putting 1 in frontof the type. For example, profile W13 or profile WZ13 areequipped with an uncovered centering * for the supporting (A366), (430), (304), (316), (321), (316Ti), (309), (--), (B162, alloy 200), (B162, alloy 400)*Corresponding AISI, ASTM, resp.
