2 The Course Descriptions are standard, one-paragraph Descriptions thatsummarize what students will learn in each Course . The Descriptions are gathered here in aseparate section for each discipline, and each section is introduced by a Course list and aprerequisite chart. (A prerequisite is a Course deemed essential for the successful understandingand completion of a subsequent Course .) The prerequisite charts diagram the relationships policy regarding Prerequisites is stated as follows in Ontario Secondary Schools, Grades 9 to12: Program and Diploma Requirements, 1999 (section ):Courses in Grades 11 and 12 may have Prerequisites as a requirement for enrolment. Allprerequisite courses will be identified in ministry curriculum policy documents, and nocourses apart from these may be identified as Prerequisites . Schools must provide parentsand students with clear and accurate information on Prerequisites . If a parent or an adult student requests that a prerequisite be waived, the principal willdetermine whether or not the prerequisite should be waived.

3 A principal may also initiateconsideration of whether a prerequisite should be waived. The principal will make his or herdecision in consultation with the parent or adult student and appropriate school staff. Incases where the parent or adult student disagrees with the decision of the principal, theparent or adult student may ask the appropriate supervisory officer to review the fourteen curriculum policy documents outlining the curriculum expectations for all Grade 11and 12 courses, and including the Course Descriptions and information about prerequisitesprovided here, will be distributed to schools when they are finalized. The curriculum policydocument for interdisciplinary studies will be released at a later date.
