2 This includes the power point presentation, and all references used during this training. Rationale the internet may not be available from the work station you are using during this training. Check the videos embedded on specific slides to assure they play properly and the volume is adjusted appropriately. Make ALL copies See Handout Section of this document. Set up the room to assure your audience can work with an elbow partner and in a small group. On the table, have the blank copy paper, highlighters, markers, stickers and poster paper. You will need to determine how you will distribute copies throughout the training depending on the size of your group. You will need to set up a Parking Lot at the front of the room. This provides the essential components of teaching preschool children effectively and is grounded in research and theory. Volume 5: Objectives for Development and Learning (ODLs): There are 38 objectives on a progression for all children birth through kindergarten, including two related to English language acquisition.

6 These standards are research based, highly predictive of future school success and are reflective of widely accepted early learning standards The organization of Volume 5 includes areas of development and learning overview for each area, research foundation page, progression of development and learning and strategies for promoting children s learning. KEY POINTS: The Objectives for Development and Learning are the DoDEA College and Career Ready Standards for Preschool. 7 The colors are for each of life and kindergarten. The color bands show you at a glance what is typical for children in that age range. 9 5 minutes Key Points: Knowing and understanding the progressions allow you to easily scaffold children s learning. In volume 5, the Objectives for Development and Learning, the objectives 1-23 will appear like this (on screen). A well-organized classroom helps children make choices, encourages them to use materials well, and teaches them to take increasing responsibility for maintaining the classroom. A well-balanced daily schedule gives children a sense of security and your plan enables you to plan for each day. It covers what preschool children learn in the content areas of literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, the arts and technology. Chapter 3 of The Foundation describes the body of knowledge included in each content area and the process skills children use to gain that knowledge.
