2 Upton Central School District is committed to an educational environment that assures equitable opportunity for individuals to become College and Career Ready and ultimately, responsible, productive members of society. We will encourage all individuals to do their personal best, that they may gain a lifelong enthusiasm for work and learning. The district vision and operating principles listed below are a natural extension of our mission. As such, they are intended to be a framework which will guide the district s future direction. They also serve as benchmarks by which district progress can be measured. The environment of our district should reflect our vision and principles and it is the responsibility of the administration and staff to see that these ideals and principles are carried out.

3 The GMU Board of Education expects all staff to model the values and ideals embodied in these important principles. As a learning community, we understand that we must continually review, monitor and adjust our mission, operating principles and instructional goals of our district. Furthermore, we acknowledge and understand that everything we do is done in the best interest of the students of the Gilbertsville-Mt. Upton School , we understand that: The best interest of the child is held with the highest importance when dealing with them in person, on the telephone, or by mail. A student is a person who brings us his or her readiness to learn. It is our job to handle each student individually in a manner which best supports them and maximizes their potential.

4 Our priorities are determined by what our students need.
