2 This procedural guide interfaces with Department of Defense Instruction (DoDI) , Department of Defense Fire and Emergency Services Program and Department of Defense Manual (DoDM) , The DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification Program. Summary of Changes This DoD F&ESCP procedural guide dated January 2017, replaces the DoD F&ESCP procedural guide , dated July 2016. Changes from the previous version are identified with a vertical bar next to the paragraph containing the changed information. Specifically, t his revision includes the following significant updates: Clarified the Hazmat Awareness and Hazmat Operations-MSC completions not requiring formal enrollment with AU (Chapter 2) Introduced the new web-based Courses.

This chapter outlines the execution of the Department of Defense (DoD) Fire and Emergency Services Certification Program (F&ESCP) in accordance with DoD , DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification Program. The purpose of the F&ESCP is to enhance the training program to improve firefighter performance reliability and strengthen the professionalism of all D oD Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) personnel. Responsibilities. In accordance with (IAW) DoD Instruction , DoD Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) Program, the Air Force Civil Engineer Center, Fire Emergency Services Division (AFCEC/CXF), hereafter referred to as the Administration Center, is designated as the lead agency responsible for implementation of the DoD F&ESCP.

6 DoD Certification Eligibility. IAW DoD , eligibility for DoD certification under the F&ESCP for the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1000-series certifications is restricted to Military and DoD civilian (to include contracted and foreign nationals) Fire and Emergency Services personnel, who have successfully passed the written and performance evaluations. Eligibility for the NFPA 472, Hazardous Material courses is open to all government personnel. Program Management. The Administration Center is dual accredited by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) and National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications (Pro Board), and as the accredited entity, issues IFSAC and Pro Board sealed DoD certificates for successfully completing certification requirements through the DoD venues identified in Chapter 2 IAW the policies and procedures contained within this document.

7 DoD certifications with an IFSAC and/or Pro Board seal and number do not expire. The DoD policy is once certified, always certified. There may or may not be training requirements to maintain proficiency in certifications based on the local authority having jurisdiction s (AHJ s) determination. Other certifications that have an expiration date will have the date printed on the certificate. Refer to the specific chapter within this document for more information specific to the certification. This chapter identifies the various methods and venues for receiving DoD certifications . There are two main methods by which DoD employees may obtain DoD certifications under the F&ESCP. DoD employees can complete distance learning or in-residence courses at one of the D oD venues identified in this chapter.
