1 DHS Training Courses available : Workplace Security Awareness (IS-906) active shooter , What You Can Do (IS-907) The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announces the availability of two Independent Study course titled: Workplace Security Awareness (IS-906) and active shooter , What You Can Do (IS-907), no-cost Training Courses developed to provide the public with guidance on Workplace Security and how to prepare for and respond to an active shooter situation. This online Training is available through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Emergency Management Institute (EMI) at and The Training is targeted to reach a broad range of individuals, including public-sector and private-sector managers and employees. The Workplace Security Awareness course was developed by the Office of Infrastructure Protection and FEMA EMI.
2 This course is self-paced and takes approximately one hour to complete. Upon completion of Workplace Security Awareness, employees and managers will be able to: Identify potential risks to Workplace violence. Describe measures for improving Workplace Security . Determine the actions to take in response to a Security situation. A certificate from FEMA EMI is awarded to participants who complete the entire course and pass a short final exam. The active shooter , What You Can Do course was developed through a collaborative process that included representatives from the Commercial Facilities Sector, various components of the Office of Infrastructure Protection, and FEMA EMI. Development also included consultation with the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center. The course is self-paced and takes approximately 45 minutes to complete.
3 Upon completion of active shooter , What You Can Do, employees and managers will be able to: Describe the actions to take when confronted with an active shooter and responding law enforcement officials. Recognize potential Workplace violence indicators. Describe actions to take to prevent and prepare for potential active shooter incidents. Describe how to manage the consequences of an active shooter incident. A certificate from FEMA EMI is awarded to participants who complete the entire course and pass a short final exam.
