Transcription of DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING - BOOST PRESSURE SENSOR
OPERATIONWhen the intake manifold PRESSURE is low (highvacuum) SENSOR voltage output is volts at theECM. When the intake manifold PRESSURE is high dueto turbo BOOST , SENSOR voltage output is SENSOR receives a 5-volts reference from theECM. SENSOR ground is also provides by the ECM uses BOOST PRESSURE combined with intakeair temerature to determine the volume of air enter-ing the engine (Fig. 2). DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING - BOOST PRESSURESENSORIf the BOOST PRESSURE SENSOR fails, the ECM recordsa DTC into memory and continues to operate theengine in one of the three limp-in modes.
When theECM is operating in this mode, a loss of power willbe present, as if the turbocharger was not best method for diagnosing faults with the boostpressure SENSOR is with the DRB III scan tool. Referto the Diesel Powertrain Diagnostic Manual for to On-Board Diagnostics in Emissions Con-trol System for a list of Diagnostic Trouble Codes(DTC s) for certain fuel system (1) Disconnect the negative battery cable.(2) Unplug the electrical connector.(3) Remove the SENSOR retaining bolts, remove thesensor and (1) Inspect BOOST PRESSURE SENSOR O-ring for cuts orabrasions, replace as 1 ACCELERATOR PEDAL position SENSORFig.

When the ECM receives the signalfrom this SENSOR , it can then detect TDC of cylindernumber one. The signal from the camshaft SENSOR isonly required during engine starting. Injection timingis synchronized by means of the camshaft signal andthe crankshaft the camshaft SENSOR s signal line, a high signalcorrespons to a voltage of 11 14V. If the segmentmachined into the exhaust camshaft sprocket is posi-tioned opposite the camshaft SENSOR , the camshaftsignal is low, approximately 0V. This signal is usedby the engine control module (ECM) for detectingignition TDC of cylinder 1 as the engine rotates.
If nosignal is supplied by the camshaft position SENSOR ,the vehicle will not start because cylinder order cannot be detected (Fig. 4).REMOVAL(1) Disconnect negative battery cable.(2) Remove engine cover(3) Disconnect camshaft position SENSOR electricalconnector (Fig. 5).(4) Remove retaining bolt and remove SENSOR ( ).INSTALLATION(1) Install camshaft position SENSOR and tightenbolt (Fig. 5).(2) Reconnect electrical connector (Fig. 5).(3) Install engine cover.(4) Reconnect negative battery 4 CAMSHAFT position SENSOR1 - WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR2 - CAM position SENSOR3 - O-RING4 - CYLINDER HEAD COVERFig.
