The role ofdevelopment agenciesthus becomes pivotal as they help the developing and the under-developed worldovercome their obstacles to socio-economic progress.

9 The recent past indicates thatsuch International agencies not only provided financial support but also a wide rangeof technical and administrative facilities with regard to the afore-mentionedlimitations of the developing in view the scope of work and the role of these organizations, Commission onScience and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS), tookan initiative in the year 2002 and compiled a list of some major Donor and developmentorganizations. These organizations remained quite active in pursuit of their objectivesin the relatively poor countries.

10 This effort by COMSATS remained very successful asthe Commission received encouraging feedback from those who made use of second updated compilation of this Directory was published in the year 2004,whereas this third edition has been completed in June 2007 in view of its demand andutilization by various stakeholders, including governmental bodies, non-governmentalorganizations (NGOs), academic institutions, scientific and technical organizations,as well as International Donor and Development is presently working on the possibility of adding further Donor anddevelopment organizations in the Directory .
