3 The Supreme Officers andDirectors, State Deputies, DISTRICT Deputies and GrandKnights understand and accept their special responsibil-ity to increase the membership of the OF THE DISTRICT DEPUTY The DISTRICT DEPUTY is the representative of the supreme knightand the state DEPUTY and is responsible for the supervision,growth and expansion, and general care and well-being of thecouncils assigned to his DISTRICT . (Section 62, "Charter,Constitution and Laws of the Order"). He is the key to the suc-cess of the responsibilities include ensuring that his councils follow theOrder's laws and rules, promoting effective membershiprecruitment and retention programs, identifying and developingnew council locations, assisting councils in conducting rele-vant service programs, and monitoring the general financialand social health of the councils in his DISTRICT .

4 The DISTRICT DEPUTY , having been nominated by the statedeputy, is appointed and approved by the supreme knight,and is directly reportable to the state DEPUTY for all activitieswithin the DISTRICT and fulfills the very important communicationlink between the state and Supreme councils and local coun-cils. The DISTRICT DEPUTY serves at the discretion of the statedeputy and his term expires on June 30 of each year. BENEFITS OF SERVING AS A DISTRICT DEPUTYThe DISTRICT DEPUTY plays an important role in the Order's con-tinual growth. Along with the ability to contribute to the well-being of the knights of columbus , the Church and the com-munity, the position carries many personal opportunities aswell, such as: Expanding professional relationships with council offi-cers through successful membership and programmingactivities.

6 The following aresome of the common duties that a DISTRICT DEPUTY will be facedwith as well as resources that are available to DEPUTY MATERIALS AND RESOURCESThe DISTRICT DEPUTY 's outfit consists of a robe, jewel of officeand various ceremonial booklets - Installation of Officers book-let (#770), a First Degree Ceremonial Booklet and SecondDegree Ceremonial Booklet. He can obtain these items,except for the DISTRICT DEPUTY 's jewel, from the predecessor ofthe DISTRICT to which he is assigned. Replacement costs of cer-emonial books are charged to the state supreme secretary forwards the jewel for each new districtdeputy to the state DEPUTY for presentation at installation cere-monies.

7 The jewel is sent after the jurisdiction's DISTRICT deputyappointment plan is approved by the supreme knight. Theretiring DISTRICT DEPUTY is allowed to retain his jewel as amemento of his term in office. ROBESIf the retiring DISTRICT DEPUTY 's robe is unsuitable for usebecause of size or wear and tear, an order form (#588) for anew robe should be requested from the supreme the new robe is received, the old one should be sent tothe supreme secretary. ADMINISTRATIVEAt the start of the new fraternal year (July 1) each districtdeputy receives an administrative packet that contains refer-AAAADDDDMMMMIIIINNNNIIIISSSSTTTTRR RRAAAATTTTIIIIVVVVEEEERRRREEEESSSSPPPPOO OONNNNSSSSIIIIBBBBIIIILLLLIIIITTTTIIIIEE EESSSS6ence materials for use in the DISTRICT , including expenseaccount forms and the necessary reports from the SupremeCouncil Department of Fraternal Services.

8 A programming packet, which contains the "Charter, Consti-tution and Laws," a complete set of Service Program hand-books and sample materials included in the "Surge .. withService" program kit, is forwarded for his REFERENCE and on the current membership campaign are sent toeach DISTRICT DEPUTY in July and throughout the fraternal year. At the conclusion of his term in office the DISTRICT DEPUTY isrequired to turn over all articles of DISTRICT DEPUTY equipmentand files in his possession to the successor of his DISTRICT . REPORT OF COUNCIL STATUSD istrict deputies are required to complete the DISTRICT DeputySemiannual Report on Council Status, (#944A, #944B) - everysix months for each council in the DISTRICT .

9 Form #944A coversthe period of July-December and is due at the SupremeCouncil office by Dec. 31. Form #944B covers the period ofJanuary-June and is due at the Supreme Council office byJune 30. Visits to the councils in the DISTRICT will reveal out-standing efforts and achievements, as well as areas of con-cern. Discovery of a problem in its early stages and reporting itto the state DEPUTY and the Supreme Council office by using aspecial letter or the DISTRICT DEPUTY Semiannual Report onCouncil Status, allows for prompt follow-up to be made. Thesereports will be automatically mailed in April and Novembereach year.

10 COLLECTION OF FUNDS An important part of the financial welfare of the council is thecollection of dues from members. The DISTRICT DEPUTY must besure that all council officers, especially the grand knight, finan-cial secretary and treasurer, follow the proper procedures inthe collection of funds. Also, the DISTRICT DEPUTY must be surethat council officers understand and follow the proper billingprocedures of the Notice of Intent to Suspend (#1845) reten-7 DISTRICT DEPUTY SEMIANNUAL REPORT ONCOUNCIL STATUS (#944A, #944B) -- A council evalu-ation report is to be completed by the DISTRICT deputyevery six months for each council in the #944A should be used to document the statusof each council for the period of July throughDecember and is due by Dec.
