1 DOD Engineering Criteria Status Report . 24-June-15. This Report identifies Agency-specific facility Engineering documents that are current or may have been superseded by a Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) document. It is not all-inclusive of the Agency-specific documents. The purpose of this Report is to assist the user in determining the Status of Agency-Specific documents and in identifying a superseded document. A list of UFCs and their current Status is also provided. Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) documents provide planning, design, construction, sustainment, restoration, and modernization Criteria , and apply to the Military Departments, the Defense Agencies, and the DoD Field Activities in accordance with USD(AT&L) Memorandum dated 29 May 2002.

2 UFC are distributed only in electronic media and are effective upon issuance. UFCs that have been unified for use by all participating agencies have no alphabetical letter at the end of the document number. UFCs that are agency-specific have an alphabetical letter at the end of the document. A document that has a letter "A" indicates USACE, an "N". indicates NAVFAC and an "F" indicates AFCESA. A combination of two letters indicates that the document is used by two agencies. UFCs are divided into three categories: active, cancelled and inactive. ACTIVE: Documents that are currently in use. These documents are located in the Active folder on the Whole Building Design Guide.

3 CANCELLED: CANCELLED - SUPERSEDED: Documents that have been cancelled and replaced by another document. The replacement document is technically equivalent or superior to the superseded document and may be used as a replacement. The cancelled documents are located in the Archived folder on the Whole Building Design Guide. The following document list indicates what document supersedes the cancelled document. CANCELLED WITH NO REPLACEMENT: Documents that have been cancelled with no replacement. These documents are located in the Archived folder on the Whole Building Design Guide. The following document list indicates if the document is cancelled without replacement.

4 INACTIVE: Documents that are not currently active and should not be used for new design; they have no direct, active replacement. These documents are located in the Inactive folder on the Whole Building Design Guide. The content and references in these documents are out-of-date and must not be used without verifying accuracy. 5 The requirements have primarily been incorporated into UFC as they are Instructions updated. Army Design Build Instructions Instructions to construction contractors and designers performing design-buid Army contracts. Army Design Guides A term perhaps used for district or center design manuals. Army Engineer Instructions General design guidance for US Army facility projects. Army Engineer Regulations Army Engineer Technical Letters Brief design and construction guidance, typically canceled after two years and incorporated into UFC or UFGS when updated. Army Field Manuals Doctrine and training publications directed toward soldiers serving in the field.

6 Army Public Works Technical Bulletin Bulletins published on an as needed basis that are intended to provide information on specific topics in areas of Facilities Engineering and Public Works. Army Technical Instructions Engineering technical design instructions for Army facilities. Army Technical Manuals Engineering technical Criteria manuals for Army facilities. Defense Special Weapons Agency Navy Criteria Manuals Technical Guidance. Navy Design Guide Design Guidance for regional requirements of NAVFAC Atlantic Navy Design Manuals NAVFAC produced Design Manuals (DM) in the late 1970s and 1980s. Later in their development, large, all-encompassing DMs were broken into what were called "point manuals.

7 " In essence, the individual chapters of the original document were more fully developed and published as a separate document, numbered the same as the original DM, but with the addition of a "point number" that usually corresponded to the chapter number in the original DM. For example: DM 1, "Architecture," was originally published in October 1974, and broken into four "point manuals" from 1984 to 1986. The four point manuals were DM , "Basic Architectural Requirements and Design Considerations;" DM , "Materials and Building Components;" DM. , "Architectural Acoustics - Functional Requirements, Design and Technology;" and DM , "Earth-Sheltered Buildings.

8 " In the late 1980s and early 1990s, NAVFAC began to convert the Design Manuals into Military Handbooks (MIL-HDBK.) Military Handbooks are part of the Defense Standardization Program. Design Manuals were placed in the 1000 series Military Handbooks, and usually the DM number corresponded to the new MIL- HDBK number. For example: DM , "Soil Dynamics, Deep Stabilization and Special Design Aspects," was converted to Military Handbook 1007/3, "Soil Dynamics and Special Design Aspects." Very few Design Manuals are still active. These listings are not all inclusive; they only include those manuals whose Status has been positively affirmed. Navy Handbook Technical Guidance.

9 Navy Interim Technical Guidance (ITG) Navy uses ITGs to provide and publish guidance or requirements quickly and immediately, until a more permanent Criteria document, such as a UFC, can be developed and published. Navy Maintenance and Operations Manuals In the late 1980s, NAVFAC started converting relevant Maintenance and Operation manuals into Military Handbooks, 1100 series. Not as many Maintenance and Operation manuals were converted as Design Manuals. Maintenance and Operation manuals are currently being evaluated and converted to UFC as needed. This can be a long process as most Maintenance and Operation manuals were Navy-only, and therefore, must be unified with other single-service documents before being published.

10 These listings are not all inclusive; they only include those manuals whose Status has been positively affirmed. Navy Military Handbooks NAVFAC started publishing its design and construction Criteria as Military Handbooks in the late 1980s. Military Handbooks, along with Military Standards and Military Details, are part of the Defense Standardization Program (DSP.) Military Handbooks for maintenance were published in the 1100. series. MIL-HDBKs are for guidance purposes. Currently, the majority of Military Handbooks, which contain guidance, have been replaced by Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), which contain requirements. Active MIL-HDBKS are located at the DSP website, ASSIST, at Navy Planning and Design Policy Policy directives include authority or information that must be promulgated formally, regulations essential to effective administration, policy Statement establishment, delegation of authority, and mission assignments.
