Donor DispatchNEWS FOR CORNERHOUSE DONORSSUMMER 2016 Moren Finds Multiple Ways to Help CornerHouseBusiness Woman s Goal is to Support Staff, Advance Most Vital Mission Shawn Moren has been a CornerHouse Donor and volunteer for many years. She was first introduced to CornerHouse years ago, by another Donor and friend. Since then, she has danced as a competitor in the Let s Dance gala; volunteered as an auctioneer at the Twins Event; contributed as a Donor ; and been steadfastly committed to helping the kids, vulnerable adults, and families CornerHouse serves in whatever way she is a business woman.

2 Having earned her MBA at Eastern Kentucky University, she is Senior Vice President of Human Resources at the Bluestem Group. Her corporate career has also spanned companies like Supervalu and Best Buy. I don t have the skills to dive in and understand or investigate [cases of alleged abuse], she says. But I can support that work by dancing, auctioneering, volunteering my time, raising money, and donating funds so that the people who DO have those skills can do that work. Her heart is with the staff members and with the clients they serve. When I first visited CornerHouse, I was struck by how difficult it is for children and families affected by abuse.

3 You can t just bring an innocent child into a police station and have her give a report, or expect that she has the words to describe her experience to a doctor during a medical examination. Sometimes children are caught in the middle between parents, too. There are so many complications in these types of situations. Knowing that, she says, I am so glad CornerHouse exists. What is more compelling than helping children who ve been potential victims of abuse? I can t think of anything that is more important than that. Who would not want to help those kids out? CornerHouse is the most vital mission I can think of. I don t have the skills to dive in and understand or investigate [cases of alleged abuse].
