BRITISH LIBRARY. FileOpen / adobe digital Editions (ADE) / drm lite COMMON NON TECHNICAL QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS. 1) Can the link I received in my email be re used? FileOpen Yes, the link can be clicked on as many times as you like (will be up to 30 days from email being received), however it can only be re used on the first PC the document was originally opened on. ADE Yes, the link can also be clicked on as many times as you like. Again only for 30 days. It can also be re used on any PC that has a copy of adobe digital Editions installed that is activated with the same ID as the copy of ADE installed on the first PC the document was opened on.

You may activate' up to 6 PC's in this manner. Please note however you will only be able to print on the first PC the document was opened on. drm lite Yes, the link can be clicked on as many times as you like (will be up to 30 days from email being received) and re used on any PC you like. The document remains locked to your On Demand account. The first time you open your document on any new' PC however you will need to ensure that it has internet access. As the usage rights are stored in the PDF file, we advise you save the PDF file to your hard drive/memory stick.

You can open the PDF file directly on any PC, the link is not needed to access it once you have a copy. 2) Can I read my documents on a different PC to the PC I downloaded it to? FileOpen Yes you can. You can download a document PDF file on PC 1 (ensure you don't open it). and save it to a memory stick and open it on PC 2. Please note that PC 2 must have internet access to enable the FileOpen plug in to contact our servers to establish usage rights. ADE Yes, as long as the PC is activated with the same adobe ID as the first PC you opened the document on.

When you click your link, you are sent an acsm' file which is a key' to download the PDF file from our servers. This acsm' file is not the document itself. It can however be saved onto a memory stick and transferred to another PC for use. As with FileOpen, the other PC needs to have internet connectivity. We would advise you do not take this approach and you simply click on the link you were sent on the other PCs you wish to open the document on (remembering they must be activated with the same adobe ID). drm lite Yes you can. You can download a document PDF file on PC 1 and save it to a memory stick or similar and open it on PC 2.

Please note that PC 2 must have internet access to enable adobe Reader to contact our servers to establish usage rights. For drm lite documents we recommend that you save the PDF file. 3) What are the expiration/printing restrictions? For FileOpen / ADE / drm lite , all customer get 3 years from the date of download to read their documents. Customers are allowed to retain one printed copy from their two permitted attempts.
