AutorangingAutoranging meters automatically select the rangethat gives you the best resolution. For example, whenmeasuring 24 VAC, the meter will select the 40 VACrange and display " ". In the 400 Vrange, you'dsee "24" and in the 4V range you'd see "OL" for over-load. When an n (nano), (micro), m (milli), K (kilo),or M (mega) shows up in the display , you must multi-ply by 10-9, 10-6, 10-3, 103, and used:Caution, risk of electric shockCaution, refer to insulationOPERATOR S CLAMP 400A 300V NCVHOLDHHFor your :Disconnect the test leads before openingthe case. Inspect the test leads for damage to theinsulation or exposed metal. Replace if ground yourself when taking electrical meas-urements. Do not touch exposed metal pipes, outlets, fixtures, etc.

, which might be at ground your body isolated from ground by using dryclothing, rubber shoes, rubber mats, or any approvedinsulating material. When disconnecting from a cir-cuit, disconnect the "RED" lead first, then the com-mon lead. Work with others. Use one hand for test-ing. Turn off power to the circuit under test before cut-ting, unsoldering, or breaking the circuit. Keep yourfingers behind the finger guards on the probes. Donot measure resistance when circuit is powered. Donot apply more than rated voltage between input voltage tests:All voltage ranges will withstandup to 600V. Do not apply more than 600 VDC or600 VAC rms. AC tests:Disconnect the meter from the circuitbefore turning any inductor off, including motors, transformers, and solenoids.

High voltage transientscan damage the meter beyond repair. Do not useduring electrical Clean the exterior with clean dry cloth. Do not replacement:When either displayshows the battery symbol to the right, the batter-ies must be replaced for that display . Disconnectand unplug leads, turn meter off, and remove thebattery cover on the back (two screws). The batteryon top is for the top display . The two batteries on thebottom are for the bottom display . Replace withCR2032 (3V) button-style warrantyThis meter is warranted against defects in materi-al or workmanship for one year from date of pur-chase. Fieldpiece will replace or repair the defectiveunit, at its option, subject to verification of the warranty does not apply to defects resultingfrom abuse, neglect, accident, unauthorized repair, alteration, or unreasonable use of the implied warranties arising from the sale of aFieldpiece product, including but not limited toimplied warranties of merchantability and fitness for aparticular purpose, are limited to the shall not be liable for loss of use of theinstrument or other incidental or consequential dam-ages, expenses, or economic loss, or for any claim ofsuch damage, expenses, or economic loss.

Send the meter freight pre-paid to Fieldpiece Instruments. Send proof of dateand location of purchase for in-warranty service. Themeter will be repaired or replaced, at the option ofFieldpiece, and returned via least cost transportation. ! DUAL-DISPLAY DIGITALAUTORANGINGMINI CLAMPMETERS: SC52, SC53 DescriptionThe DUAL-DISPLAY clamp meters can simultaneous-ly measure amps through the clamp and any of thefunctions on the dial of the meter. The amp clamp canbe turned on and off independently from the rest ofthe meter to save battery life.

Non-contact voltage Press and hold the NCV button. When the clamptip is close to an AC voltage, the NCV LED will lightand the beeper will beep. The closer you get to ACvoltage, the faster and louder the beep. The NCVfunction is sensitive enough to detect 24 VAC on ther-mostats. (24V to 600V, 50Hz to 60Hz) Capacitance (SC53)For motor-start and motor-run capacitors, first dis-connect the capacitor from power. Discharge thecapacitor by shorting the terminals before connectingto meter. Disconnect any resistors that might bebetween the terminals of the capacitor. If the capaci-tor is connected to the meter and dsc symbol isshown on the LCD, there is voltage in the testedcapacitor that needs to be discharged before testing.

Hold There is a separate data hold function for eachdisplay. The HOLD button on the side of the metercorresponds to the AAC function and top display . TheHOLD button on the face of the meter corresponds tothe dial functions and bottom display . To keep the lat-est reading displayed on the meter, press the HOLD button relating to the display you want to the HOLD button again to go back to normalmode. The hold symbol on the display will offBoth displays have separate auto off features after10 minutes of user nonoperation. The meter will beepto announce the meter has turned off. If the ON/OFFbutton is depressed when the top display is automat-ically turned off, you will need to press it twice to turnthe top display on again. APO is shown on the dis-play to let the user know that there is an Auto PowerOff feature for this meter.

APO cannot be disabled. Temperature (SC53)Temperature measurement will be accurate evenin fast changing environments because of excellenttemperature compensation. 1. Remove leads and slide the Temp switch to theright to close lead jacks. 2. Plug any K-type thermocouple directly into themeter to measure temperature. Field Temperature calibration(SC53) For accuracies of 1 , calibrate to a known tem-perature. A glass of stabilized ice water is very closeto 32 F (0 C) and is usually very convenient but anyknown temperature can be used. 1. Select 400 F/C range and connect thermocouple. 2. Remove back case (2 screws on back, one nearclamp, other near base). Leave battery coverattached so batteries stay within back Stabilize a large cup of ice water. 4. Immerse the thermocoupletip and let it To change the temperaturescale from F to C, closethe black jumper justabove the Adjust VR2 calibration potwith a small screwdriver toget within of 32 F(0 C).

Each 1/4 turnshould adjust the tempera-ture about 3 , no morethan 10 total. There s no need rotating the screwmore than 360 ; doing so gets you back to whereyou case without screws to preview the temper-ature and continue until you have it dialed UNPLUG TESTLEADS before opening FUNCTION ON KNOWN LIVEWIRE before NOTAPPLYVOLTAGE greater than30 VAC or 60 VDC to the thermocouple or thejacks when the rotary dial is on OFF. DO NOTAPPLYVOLTAGE TO THE JACKS when the rotary dial is on microamps. Even lowvoltages can cause a current overload andblow the fuse. Replace blown fuse to regainfunction.!!SPECIFICATIONSD isplay:3 digit liquid crystal display (LCD) with a maxi-mum reading of :"OL" or -OL mark power off:10 environment:32 to 122 F (0 to 50 C), at <70% temperature:-4 to 140 F (-20 to 60 C), @ <80% with batteries :Specifications good in ambient conditions of74 F 8 F (23 C 4 C), <75% relative (specified accuracy) per F/ C; 32 to 66 F (0 to 19 C); 82 to 122 F(28 to 50 C).
