Parish Alumnae: A Benedictine Connection Last Saturday, August 4, Novice Terry Lafferty made her first vows at the Benedictine Sacred Heart Monastery in Yankton, SD. Terry grew up in our parish in the 1960s, as the third of eight children (mother Patricia, and father, the late Francis Lafferty), living on 47th St.

7 Near Star Harbor. She discovered her calling while serving as Assistant Professor of Religious Studies at Mount Marty College. Her chosen theme is especially inspirational for our historic parish: If the Lord does not build the house, in vain do the builders labor (Psalm 127:1). She elaborates: If God is not a part of the building, the home, or the people, there is no real point to the work that is and I am reminded that God s house is the whole world. Powerful ideas! We wish Novice Terry all the best and are pleased to discover this thoughtful new old connection.

10 REMEMBER THOSE WHO HAVE DIED Raymond Albert Eternal Rest grant unto them O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon them. HOLY DAY OF OBLIGATION Wednesday, August 15 Assumption of Mary The Assumption feast day has been celebrated since the 7th century, though it was only in 1950 that Pope Pius XII declared as dogma that the Virgin Mary "having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory." Many places in Europe and South America, parts of Africa and Asia, and ethnic communities in the United States, hold processions on the solemnity.
