The first time you log in, follow the Instructions in the Quick Start Guide available on MetNet under Employee Resources > Employee Self Service (the quick start guide is also provided at the start of employment). Key points: Because ESS provides access to information like your bank account number for direct deposit, it is important that you do not share your ESS password or allow your browser to save your ESS password for you. Keep your email address up-to-date in ESS. Alerts are sent to your primary email address. Passwords expire every 90 days. Password requirements, such as the number of characters or required characters, are displayed on the Change Password screen.

3 If you forget your password, use the Forgot your password link on the login screen to reset your password. To log out, click on the three vertical dots located at the far right side of the screen. Do not click the X in the far upper right corner of the window to close the window before signing out. If the screen is idle for five minutes, you will be automatically logged out. Login and Password Page 4 | METROPOLITAN COUNCIL | ESS Instructions Forgotten Password 1. Click on Forgot your password? 2. Enter your User ID ( Employee /badge number) and click Continue. 3. Answer the security questions and click Retrieve New Password. Page 5 | METROPOLITAN COUNCIL | ESS Instructions The system-generated password will appear on the screen after you answer your three security questions correctly. 4 If you use copy/paste to transfer the temporary password to the login screen, be aware that an extra space may be included at the end of the copied text; you must remove any extra space from the end before the pasted password can be accepted. You can count the dots in the password field to verify the number of dots equals the number of characters in the temporary password. Some browsers display an eye icon in the password field; if present, you can click that icon to peek at the password entry. If you are unable to log in, the Service Desk can manually reset your password. Contact them at or 651-602-1498. They will need to know your Employee ID (badge number).
