We aim to lay the foundations that engage young people in life-long Education and training and to enrich their lives. Our learning environment is based on strong traditional values with a very clear focus on Learning, Respect and Safety and it features an innovative and dynamic curriculum, rich digital learning experiences and it is enhanced by excellent teaching and resources. The skills derived through senior Education and needed in the 21st century are unique, and differ from those skills needed in the past. Societal shifts, including changes in employment and the way information and knowledge is accessed, used and created have influenced the changes in these skills.

As a result, we are committed to preparing our young people for a very different future from that of their parents. As per the skills and capabilities that have been highlighted in the recent Queensland Government (Department of Education ) White Paper, Advancing Education : An Action Plan for Education in Queensland we need to prepare our students to be; lifelong learners who are knowledge creators, technology savvy, problem solvers, innovators and effective communicators who share ideas with others and respond positively to change global citizens who have relationships based on fairness and tolerance, are culturally competent and able to connect locally and globally successful people who set goals, are resilient, able to create opportunities and are confident in pursuing their passions.

(2015, ) Whether these skills are variations of skills needed in the past or are unique to our 21st century context, they have been central to Education for many years and have become more prominent with the shift to advanced knowledge economies and globalisation (Bowman 2010 ). At Maroochydore State High School we hope to prepare students for a complex and rapidly changing world by prioritising the knowledge and skills that will equip our students with the abilities needed to thrive in our community and the economies of the future.

(Lonsdale & Anderson 2011 ). To therefore provide young people with excellent schooling in the 21st century, our curriculum at provides an innovative, flexible and forward looking approach while attending and responding to students individual needs at present. The curriculum is also heavily shaped by the revolution in the use of information and communication technology and the rapid expansion of globalization in the new century. It is against this background that Maroochydore State High School has developed a Curriculum Philosophy and Curriculum Framework capable of delivering an excellent and relevant schooling experience for every student.

The Philosophy and Framework also reflects the commitment of the Department of Education , Training and Employment to ensuring that our students have the Education and skills they need to contribute to the economic and social development of Queensland and that the Education and training we provide is aligned to the state's employment, skills and economic priorities. 4 CURRICULUM PHILOSOPHY The following principles are fundamental to our philosophy 1. Teaching strategies, learning experiences and curriculum offerings will reflect the developmental stages of young people.
