4 Amen. 1. NOT AN OPTION; BUT A COMMAND Go ye Note: The Great Commission was given to the Church as a command and not as an option. Jesus commands every Christian to Go and to be a witness. The reason He came is the reason I am going unknown John 20:21-22 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you. Note: The Command to the Christian to Go and to declare the Word of God comes from God Himself. This ministry was always intended to flow out of the local church. It was not intended to be run by para-church organisations. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the Key John 20:23, Luke 5:20-21 Jesus has passed down the keys of the kingdom of Heaven to the Church of God. The Church is given the responsibility (the keys) to declare the good news the gospel. The Church is given the authority by Jesus Christ to make decisions based on the Word of God. 6 Luke 19:10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. God reached out to humanity with the Gospel. Note: Just as Jesus Christ descended from Heaven to seek and to save the lost, so is the Church to reach out (or go out) and to seek the lost. Seek = to go to, to seek in order to find, do not wait for them to come to us. Like the hymn writer sings Bring the wandering ones to Jesus. INTRODUCTION His Last Command is Our First Concern Hark! 'tis the Shepherd's voice I hear, Out in the desert dark and drear, Calling the sheep who've gone astray Far from the Shepherd's fold away. Notice the word both. This means not only, but also, and at the same time. The Church is to reach out not only in its community, but also in other suburbs, states, and all countries around the world, fulfilling the great Commission.
