Monday, COURSE CATALOG . June 18, 2018. through Tuesday, July 31, 2018. Business Manager's Update Fall 2018. Dear Brothers and Sisters, The Training Department recently hosted the 55th Annual Apprentice Graduation Ceremony. It was a great event and well attended at just over 300 people, including the group of our 62 new journeymen and journeywomen. Congratulations to each of you! Our Apprenticeship program continues to serve as the backbone of our Local 's success.

Our Training Department continues to grow and has exciting new courses and developments set to commence this fall. We have extended the hands-on HVAC courses, adding a sixth day. The VAV COURSE has really progressed as well with the addition of Johnson Controls automation, indoor air quality, DDC applications, and an emphasis on the understanding of variable air volume. Also, the NFPA low and high voltage courses are becoming increasingly popular, and, as a result, we will be hosting them on both sides of the bay. Basic master keying and pinning is being offered in the Sacramento area for the first time. Students are also finding good uses for all the additional laminated study materials now added to AC, chillers, boilers and various other courses.

On another note, the investments made in cooling tower trainers are being very well received among the membership. Students have been encouraged to bring water samples from their respective plants for analyses from a water treatment professional. They are also using the class as an opportunity to work hands-on with water chemistry in a controlled environment under the guidance of an expert. As a result of the recent changes to the EPA certification courses mandated by the government, we've developed a study guide for our students in order to ensure your continued success in the craft. We strongly encourage you, the membership, to continue to sharpen your skills. Find a COURSE to enroll into from this publication and never stop learning in this ever-changing world.

Lastly, the IUOE has built its first ever International Training and Education Center located in Crosby, Texas near Houston. The facility is on 225 acres and offers 222 single occupancy dormitory rooms with their own private bathrooms, multiple classrooms, hands-on Training labs, as well as a dining hall and swimming pool. The physical plant was designed with redundant equipment, wide walkways, ample lighting, and sound dampening to accommodate Training . Guest instructors from various IUOE locals across the country as well as equipment manufacturer representatives (when applicable) will teach courses. Class durations are typically less than one week. The IUOE National Training Fund (NTF) cov- ers instructor and student travel expenses as well as room and board.

Individual general membership is also covered with the Business Man- ager's approval. Fraternally, Jerry Kalmar Business Manager-Secretary, Vice President Fall 2018.
