4 The study was entrusted by the Department of Agriculture, Cooperation & farmers Welfare, Ministry of Agriculture & farmers Welfare, Government of India, New Delhi, to the Agricultural Development and Rural Transformation Centre (ADRTC), Institute for Social and Economic Change, Bengaluru. We thank the Directorate of Economics and Statistics (AER division). of the Ministry of Agriculture & farmers Welfare as we received strong support for carrying out the study. The study enabled to understand the causes of FARMER SUICIDES and suggestions to prevent the same.

5 For this purpose, both secondary and primary data has been used pertaining to the agriculture year 2015-16. Primary data was collected from 107 victim households covering four major districts namely Mysuru, Mandya, Haveri and Belagavi. We are grateful to Director of ISEC, Prof. Chandrakanth and Former Director of ISEC, Prof. Deshpande for their encouragement and support. We have received support from the concerned officials from the Department of Agriculture, Government of KARNATAKA . We highly appreciate for their cooperation.
