The Lord Jesus said of himself, " I am the light of the world" (John 8: 12).

5 In today's Gospel, Jesus speaks words directed to us and our roles:" You are the light ofthe world"( Mt 5:14). God has called us to constantly give him witness. It is through Christ that God wants us to be visible in the world and illuminate the darkness of this world. Anyone who admits Christ into their heart, receives him and is also recognized by the people as a witness, and provides the light of Jesus in the world. Christ clearly says in today's Gospel: ., You are the salt of the earth" and" You are the light ofthe world. " (Mt 5: 13) As witness of faith in today's world, Christians are persecuted.

6 Every three minutes a Christian martyr is killed. Every year, one hundred and seventy thousand Christians die for their faith. Why? Because they are the light of the world, but the world that wants to live in darkness cannot stand the light. They are the salt of the earth and they want to give direction to the world. We must remember that the power of the testimony of the light and the salt does not belong to us, nor does it happen by our power. It is the light of Christ and it is the flavor of Christ. We need to be tried, in any way that the light is not obscured by sin. We must do nothing that would spoil the taste.

7 So that our witness and testimony of faith may be alive, strong, clean, convincing and demonstrate to others the way to God, we must constantly be united with the Lord Jesus through daily prayer, listening to His Word and try to fulfill it. We should participate in the Mass and receive Him with a pure heart in the Eucharist. We have to be penetrated by Christ's Light of faith, hope and love for God and other people. Christ wants to shine through us to the world, which continues to be in the dark. What we possess is critical, because without Christ there is only darkness in the world. Where there is no Christ, there is darkness!

8 Christians are there to be salt of the earth, because without the salt the world is plunged into complete anarchy. If we are the salt of the earth, if we fulfill the task of Christ, we become the hope for the world. We guarantee the separation of light from darkness, good and evil. We guarantee the meaning of life for ourselves and we demonstrate it to others. It is a great responsibility for us! Christ wants to use us continuously for such a blessed mission in the world, and be proud of who we really are, because Christ says to us today: "Your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorifY your heavenly Father.

9 " (Mt 5: 16) We have to be responsible and agree with Christ in every moment and in different aspects of our lives: personal, family, social, political, but we must never think that the light comes from us, because it is Christ that shines through us!
