Academic programmes offered by the Department includes Laboratory Sciences, Medical Imaging Science, Pharmacy and Physiotherapy. The Department also includes the Basic Medical Sciences of Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Microbiology and Pathology. The Basic Science experts in the Department provide tuition to undergraduate medical and allied-health students, as well as students in Oral Health and Public Health departments of the College .

2 Most of the programmes offered by the Departments are accredited nationally and regionally. NAME OF PROGRAMME ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS MODE DURATION Certificate in Disability & Community Based Rehabilitation Level 5 1. A pass in the Year 13 Examination, or its equivalent, with a minimum aggregate marks of 250 out of 400 including a 50% pass in English and at least 3 science subjects OR 2. A pass in full Foundation Science programme, or its equivalent, having a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of out of 5 or out of 3. Regional and international students will need qualifications assessed by the South Pacific Board of Education Assessment (SPBEA) or HEC (Higher Education Commission) 4. Mature-age entry or conditional enrolment: interested applicants with relevant work experience may be considered for placement upon approval by the Programme Coordinator, as per the UNIVERSITY Academic & Student Regulations (UASR).

(With at least 50% passes in English, Biology and Chemistry/Physics or with an equivalent qualification such as full Foundation Science with GPA of ). 1 Semester Certificate in Clinical Laboratory Technology Level 5 1. A pass in the Fiji Year 13 Examination or the equivalent, with a minimum aggregate of 250 out of 400. (With at least 50% passes in English, Biology and Chemistry/Physics or with an equivalent qualification such as Full Foundation Science with GPA of ). 2 Years Bachelor of Pharmacy 1. A pass in the Year 13 Examination, or its equivalent, with a minimum aggregate marks of 320 out of 400 in Mathematics, Chemistry (at least 75%), either Biology or Physics including 50% pass in English OR ; 2.

4 A pass in full Foundation Science programme, or its equivalent, with a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of out of 5 or/and out of of the full Foundation Science programme with at least ReviB+ in Chemistry. FF 4 Years Bachelor of Medical Imaging Science 1. A pass in the Year 13 Examination, or its equivalent, with a minimum aggregate marks of 250 out of 400, including a mandatory pass in English, Physics and Biology OR ; 2. A pass in full Foundation Science Programme, or its equivalent, with a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of out of or out of and a mandatory pass in English, Physics and Biology OR; 3. A minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of out of or out of in Bridging full Foundation Science Programme or Unclassified full Foundation Programme with a mandatory pass in English, Physics and Biology OR; 4.

5 A holder of Certificate, Diploma or Degree in any of the Life/ Health Sciences Programme. 5. Mature / Lateral Entry - holder of Certificate or Diploma in Diagnostic Radiography from CMNHS/FSM or its equivalent institution. Admission will be based on merit until the required student numbers for the programme is met (also refer to FNU UASR Enrolment Section) Recognition of prior learning (cross-crediting) will be based on prior qualification. 6 Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science 1. A pass in the Fiji Year 13 Examination with a minimum aggregate of 250 out of 400. Plus, 50% passes in English, Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry or with an equivalent qualification such as full Foundation Science, USP (GPA of ). 2. Fiji or regional graduates with a certificate or diploma qualification in medical laboratory sciences will have to provide the syllabus for the programme they undertook to receive cross credits. Courses undertaken more than 5 years ago or any changes in the course curriculum will NOT qualify a candidate for cross credit. FF 4 Years Bachelor of Physiotherapy 1. A pass in Year 13 Examination, or its equivalent, with a minimum aggregate marks of 250 out of 400 in four subjects - Mathematics, Biology and Physics/Chemistry including 50% pass in English, OR; 2.

7 A pass in full Foundation Science programme, or its equivalent, with a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of out of 5 or out of for the above subject combination. 3. Regional and International students will need qualifications assessed by the South Pacific Board of Education Assessment (SPBEA) or HEC (Higher Education Commission). 4. Mature-age entry or conditional enrolment: relevant work experience and evidence of appropriate continuing education may be considered for placement upon approval by the Programme Coordinator, as per the UNIVERSITY Academic & Student Regulations (UASR). 5. Graduates from the Certificate in Disability & Community Based Rehabilitation programme may be considered based on academic merit (GPA of out of 5) FF 4 Years Bachelor of Physiotherapy - Bridging (will be phased out in 2018) 1.

8 Successfully passed all the requirements for the Diploma in Physiotherapy. FF 2 Years FNU SENATE ENDORSED 12 Oct. 2016 Page 4 of 18 Postgraduate Diploma in Pathology 1. Graduates with MBBS and at least 2 years experience following internship. One year of this would preferably be in pathology laboratory at a tertiary hospital and with medical registration in Fiji. 2. Other criteria as per FNU/CMNHS student admission rules and regulations. 3. A waiver to these pre-requisites can be made in certain circumstances. FF 2 Years Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Ultrasound not offered in 2017 1. Applicants should hold an appropriate first degree in medical imaging. 2. Those with a diploma equivalent in the above mentioned discipline will be encouraged to first pursue bridging in our available Bachelor of Imaging Science Programme.

9 NB. However entry requirement as per 4 below may apply. 3. Applicants who hold a first degree in radiation therapy and nuclear medicine will be considered. 4. Applicants, who hold a first degree in any of the Health Science disciplines including nursing , may also be considered. 5. For applicants who may not meet the requirements as per 1, 2, 3 above, but who are able to demonstrate their ability to succeed in the programme at this level on the basis of their other qualifications/prior learning, maturity and appropriate experience in medical sonography, may also be considered for admission as mature entry candidates. For such candidates and in accordance with the CMNHS s Monitor of Students Progress Policy, he/she will enrol in the first semester courses which will need to be passed to progress further.

10 FF 2 Years Master in Pathology 1. Postgraduate Diploma in Pathology or international equivalent. 2. Other criteria as per FNU/CMNHS student admission rules and regulations. 3. Good standing with reference from previous/current employer. Exceptions for time-limitations may be made subject to an assessment of applicant s work record. The Department has a rich complement of international staff that creates an interesting mix of skills and culture and is also responsible for postgraduate training in Anaesthesia, medicine , Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Surgery and Paediatrics.
