1 NAIOP Hawaii Box 1601 Honolulu, Hawaii 96806 Email: Website: NEWS FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MEDIA CONTACT: Mele Pochereva, 808-262-8556, McDonald s Restaurants of Hawaii named Developer of the Year at NAIOP Hawaii s 16th Annual Kukulu Hale Awards, recognizing excellence in commercial real estate industry (HONOLULU, Hawaii May 3, 2013) NAIOP Hawaii, the local chapter of the nation s only commercial real estate development association, presented McDonald s Restaurants of Hawaii, with its highest honor the Ku Ho okela Award naming the company Developer of the Year at the annual Kukulu Hale Awards program on May 3.

2 The awards recognize accomplishments in Hawaii s commercial real estate industry, including recognition for new and renovated commercial projects statewide. Melvin Y. Kaneshige, executive vice president of real estate and development for Outrigger Enterprises Group, was honored with the Holo Pono Award for Lifetime Achievement; retired bank executive Anthony R. Tony Guerrero earned the Outstanding Service Award; and Nordic PCL Construction, Inc. was named Contractor of the Year. Other special recognition was bestowed upon Kurt Mitchell, AIA, chairman and CEO of Kober Hanssen Mitchell Architects, who was selected as NAIOP Hawaii s Member of the Year; Kamehameha Schools was selected as Member Company of the Year.

3 Developer of the Year McDonald s Restaurants of Hawaii was commended for investing over $200 million in recent years to rebuild or renovate its existing restaurants while seeking new development opportunities. In 2012 alone, corporate and franchise owners worked together to remodel seven well-established Hawaii restaurants and open two new ones. Sixty-eight percent of McDonald s restaurants in Hawaii have now been rebuilt or renovated since 2005. Since opening its first store in Aina Haina in 1968, McDonald s has grown to 75 restaurants statewide, located on the islands of Oahu, Maui, Kauai and Hawaii.

4 They include franchises run by 13 owner/operators.
