1 2021: TERM 1, Week 2 5/02/2021 From the Headmaster Dear Parents, Guardians and Caregivers The 2022 Southwell year is soundly underway and it is great to see our new and returning students and families embracing the start to the school year. In regards to our guidelines and decision making in Covid Alert Level Red we will communicate with you by specific separate emails, that will also arrive in text form. We aim to be responsive and adaptable in this time of uncertainty with Omicron. Shaping and maintaining routine and structure as well as we can on site at Southwell is important for our students as we navigate these times.
2 Every week through each Southwell term there is a specific behavioral theme. The theme is there to challenge and encourage our students, staff and community to be their best selves. At the start of the week the theme is announced to the whole school in the chapel, followed up in classes by discussion and on Friday s whole school assembly we recognise students who have been great examples of the theme. Term One s themes are; Week 2 - Being Respectful Week 3 - Striving for Excellence Week 4 - Acting with Integrity Week 5 - Showing Care Week 6 - Being Creative Week 7 - Showing Resilience Week 8 - Eating Well Week 9 - Sleeping Well Week 10 - Exercising Well Week 11 - Being Mindful Your contribution to discussing the weekly theme is encouraged with your child/ren, as they are values and habits for life.

Often a pupil who seemed well at home can find it difficult to cope with the focus required whilst at school.
5 Parents need to have: An alternative person available should their child be unwell and a parent is unable to care for them. Your alternative person s contact details should be up to date and given to the Administration Staff. In consideration of other pupils and staff at Southwell School, the following criteria have been developed: These guidelines have been developed to ensure the pupil is completely well before returning to school and therefore less likely to become unwell again. The guidelines are also in place to protect other pupils and the staff at Southwell School.

We have eight pupils who are ANAPHYLACTIC if they have nuts. Some of these pupils are anaphylactic even if they are exposed to nuts (peanuts in particular.) We would ask that you avoid sending food to school which contains nuts mixed nuts, muesli bars, peanut butter sandwiches, nutella sandwiches, almonds, trail mixes They do not have a minor reaction, but a serious reaction which they can die from.
8 These pupils all have EpiPens (pre-packaged adrenaline) at school with them, because of the serious nature of their allergy. If a Southwell student is coming back from overseas and MIQ, please notify the School Nurse prior to them returning to School. We also require a copy of your child/rens Covid Vaccinations when this is complete. Either a copy of their My Vaccine Pass or their My Covid Record (please ensure you select the version with their name included). From the Library Welcome back to the Library - and 2022! Have you got some time on your hands and are keen to help out in the library?
9 We can t run the library without parent help, and we need parents to do the following tasks: Shelf tidying (at a time of your choice and can be as little as 5 minutes) New book covering (you need to be a bit particular and you will need to give anywhere from about half an hour at a time. You can do this at any time that suits. This is a particularly satisfying job) Book fixing (you will need to give anywhere from about half an hour at a time. You can do this at any time that suits. This job is a bit mucky, but it helps to keep books in circulation.) Fill in This form if you are keen to give it a go or email Penny Walch (Librarian) at Associate of Honour This award was first introduced in June 2008 to honour members of the wider Southwell community who have made remarkable achievements in their lifetime and to recognise them as inspiring role models for Southwell students.

He had a long association with Southwell, firstly as a Board Member from 1972-90; as a parent to past students Simon and Guy (sons), and Emma and Sam (grandchildren), and as a Fellow from 1982. Brian was the founder of Brian Perry Limited which later became the Perry Foundation, one of the region s largest and most successful corporations.
