Tel: +47 67 57 99 00. fssc 22000 VERSION 5 - BIHO-JVL fssc 22000 VERSION fssc 22000 (Food Safety System Certification) provides a framework for effectively managing your organization's food safety responsibilities. Since 2010, fssc 22000 is fully recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) and is based on existing ISO standards. Developments such as the updating of the GFSI benchmarking requirements to VERSION and an evaluation against the European Accreditation (EA) procedure EA 1/22 necessitated a revision of the Scheme to VERSION in July below list is not exhaustive, but points out the most important areas of change between the former released standard and the new VERSION .

2 Main changes between VERSION and VERSION Certification protocol Introduction of unannounced audits o One of the surveillance audits shall be unannounced. On clients request, all surveillance audits can be unannounced. o There will be no notification in advance. o Blackout dates can be agreed between clients and DNV GL. o If the audit is refused by the client, the certificate will be withdrawn. Non-conformity grading o A critical non-conformity will be issued when a direct food safety impact without appropriate action by the organization is observed during the audit or when legality and/or certification integrity are at stake.

3 The certificate will be Immediately suspended. o The issuance of opportunities for improvement or similar are no longer allowed. Audit duration o An upgrade audit that replaces a surveillance audit shall include an additional 25% audit time with a minimum of 4 hours. o All audits are calculated according a revised formula which in many cases will result in a different audit duration. Timing o The upgrade to is optional in 2017 and mandatory from Jan 1st 2018. 4 Food fraud o Organizations shall have a plan in place, including a vulnerability assessment and control measures. Management of services o Organizations shall ensure that all services that may have an impact on food safety, are managed and assessed. Product labelling o Organization shall ensure that the finished product is labelled according to the applicable food regulations in the country of intended sale. Logo/certification mark use o Logos/certification marks may be used on websites etc. o Logos /certification marks cannot not be used on products and packaging.

5 Management of allergens (for categories C, I and K only) o A documented allergen management plan shall be in place that includes: risk assessment, control measures to reduce or eliminate the risk of cross contamination, validation and verification. o All finished products intentionally or potentially containing allergenic materials shall be labeled according regulations in the country of manufacture and country of destination. Environmental monitoring (for categories C, I and K only) o Organization shall ensure that an environmental monitoring program is in place to verify the effectiveness of cleaning and sanitation programs.

6 Formulation of products (DII only) o Requirements regarding formulation to ensure consistence with the intended use of the product and requirements for managing ingredients that contain nutrients that can have an adverse animal health impact.
