In this regard document sets are used to provide the total information related to a particular electronic packagingtopic. A document set is identified by a four digit number that ends in zero (0) ( , IPC-6010).This standard is intended to provide information on the Generic specifications for Printed Boards . This information mustalso be supplemented by a Performance specification that contains the requirements for the chosen technology. When usedtogether, these documents should lead both manufacturer and customer to consistent terms of document, combined with one of the Performance specifications, form the documentation package which supersedesthe following:IPC-6012 supersedes IPC-RB-276 IPC-6013 supersedes IPC-RF-245 and IPC-FC-250As technology changes, a Performance specification will be updated, or new focus specifications will be added to thedocument set.

The intent of this specification is to allowthe Printed Board user and supplier flexibility to developoptimum procedures for the Manufacture and Procurementof Printed Performance ClassesThree general classes havebeen established to reflect progressive increases in sophis-tication, functional Performance requirements and testing/inspection frequency.

4 It should be recognized that theremay be an overlap of equipment categories in differentclasses. The user has the responsibility to specify in thecontract or purchase order the Performance class requiredfor each product andshallindicate any exceptions to spe-cific parameters, where 1 General Electronic Products Includes consumerproducts, some computer and computer peripherals suitablefor applications where cosmetic imperfections are notimportant and the major requirement is function of thecompleted Printed 2 Dedicated Service Electronic Products Includescommunications equipment, sophisticated businessmachines, instruments where high Performance andextended life is required and for which uninterrupted ser-vice is desired but not critical. Certain cosmetic imperfec-tions are 3 High Reliability Electronic Products Includesthe equipment and products where continued performanceor Performance on demand is critical.

5 Equipment downtimecannot be tolerated and must function when required suchas in life support items or flight control systems. Printedboards in this class are suitable for applications where highlevels of assurance are required and service is Dimensions and TolerancesAll dimensions and tol-erances specified herein are applicable only to the endproduct. Dimensions are expressed in millimeters. Usersare cautioned to employ a single system and not intermixmetric and inch-based equivalents. Reference informationis shown in parentheses ( ). Acceptability When Limiting Values Are Speci-fiedSpecified limiting values of mm maximum, mm maximum, and mm maximum are takento mean that, for the purposes of determining conformanceto this specification, an observed valueshallbe rounded offto the nearest mm, mm, mm if metric unitsare used [to the nearest inch, inch, inch ifEnglish units are used], and compared to the specified lim-iting value.

6 Rounding applies to both maximum and mini-mum Rounding ConventionWhen a figure is to berounded to fewer digits than the total number available, theprocedureshallbe as follows:a) When the first digit discarded is less than 5, the lastdigit retained should not be changed. For example, , if rounded to 4 digits would be ; ifrounded to three digits, ) When the first digit discarded is greater than 5, or ifit is a 5 followed by at least one digit other than 0,the last digit retained should be increased by oneunit. For example , if rounded to four digitswould be ; if rounded to three digits, ) When the first digit to be discarded is exactly 5, fol-lowed only by zeros, the last digit retained should berounded upward if it is an odd number, but no adjust-ment made if it is an even number. For example, , when rounded to three digits, becomes number would also round to the samevalue , if rounded to three final rounded figureshallbe obtained from the mostprecise value available and not from a series of Interpretation Shall, the emphatic form of theverb, is used throughout this specification whenever arequirement is intended to express a provision that is bind-ing.

7 Deviation from a shall requirement may be consid-ered if sufficient data is supplied to justify the words should and may are used whenever it isnecessary to express non-mandatory provisions. Will is used to express a declaration of purpose. Toassist the reader, the word shall is presented in Contractual AgreementsIn cases where the statedparameters are inappropriate or insufficient, alternateparameters may be agreed upon between vendor and APPLICABLE DOCUMENTSThe following documents of the issue in effect on the dateof issuance of this specification, form a part of this speci-fication to the extent specified herein.
