3 Provide students with the instructions and materials required for the Equilateral Triangle Activity and instruct them to complete it. Distribute and discuss the Fibonacci Sequence/Fibonacci Spiral Activity and have students begin it as homework. Class 2: Show Geometry in Floral Design - Part 4 and Geometry in Floral Design - Part 5 segments. Remind students to use the Vocabulary Handout and Worksheet as references. Provide students with the instructions and materials required for the Circular Arrangement Activity and instruct them to complete it. Class 3: Show the Geometry in Floral Design - Part 6; Geometry in Floral Design - Part 7 and Geometry in Floral Design - Part 8. Lead a class discussion so students can share their Fibonacci Sequence/Fibonacci Spiral Activity with the class.

4 Pass out the instructions for the Floral Shape Trends Project and allow students time to begin working on it. Class 4: Have students finish the Floral Shape Trends Project. Provide instructions and materials for the Silk Flower Arrangements Activity and instruct them to complete it. Introduce the Abstract & Interpretive Designs Project and instruct students to research and brainstorm for it for homework. Class 5: Have students complete the Abstract & Interpretive Designs Project. Have students complete the Crossword for review. Class 6: Administer the Geometry in Floral Designs Assessment. Have students complete the Customer Requests Project. Family, Career & Community Leaders of America Life Planning Event National FFA Floriculture SkillsUSA Action Skills Job Skill Demonstration L E S SON P L AN Fibonacci Sequence/Fibonacci Spiral Directions: Review with information within the Activity and instruct students to locate and bring five photographs of Fibonacci Spirals found in nature to class and be prepared to discuss their findings with the class. Equilateral Triangle Directions: Have students create an equilateral triangle Design using the Equilateral Triangle Arrangement Activity guidelines and instructions. Reference the production as needed. Provide each student with nine carnations, nine stems of leather leaf, and seven to ten flowerets of statice. Circular Arrangement Directions: Instruct students to make a circular arrangement following the guidelines on the Circular Arrangement Activity.

6 Encourage students to be creative in their designs. Begin with an arrangement in Floral foam and a dish, as students improve allow them to progress toward making arrangements in vases. Silk Flower Arrangements Directions: Provide students with materials to make an arrangement in one of the shapes discussed in the video using silk flowers. Remind students to use dry foam and to glue their stems in place. Floral Shape Trends Directions: Collect magazines for students which would have Floral arrangements in them such as trade magazines and journals, home Design literature, and decorating magazines and journals. Break students into discussion groups with one to two magazines per group. Instruct groups to find Floral arrangements in their literature and find the shapes in those arrangements.

7 Have each group present their findings to the class. Discuss as a class which shapes were most prevalent in the magazines and journals. Abstract & Interpretive Designs Directions: Using the Internet and trade magazines, have students research abstract and interpretive Floral designs. Inform students what materials will be provided to them so they can plan their Design around the available materials. Encourage students to be creative and use common materials in new ways in their designs. Have students take pictures of their Design at each stage of creation and compile all the pictures into a portfolio. Customer Requests Directions: Floral designers not only have to be creative, but need to be able to take a customer s wishes into consideration when creating a Floral arrangement.

8 Provide students with an everyday object around which they must create their Design . Inform students their Design must also be a geometric shape such as one discussed in the presentation or other shape such as an inverted-T or Hogarth curve. Geometry in Floral Design
