7 Breeding sheep were a significantly better trade today. A run of smart Continental shearlings were all keenly bid for 135, 144 and 145. Mule shearlings were better to sell than recently with several pens in the 120- 125 bracket. Even the ewes attracted more interest. Three pure Texels sold for 185. David Pinder s Texel 1-crop ewes sold for 122 and Graham Robinson s 2&3 crop ewes were a very level trade all round the 100. Rams sold well topping at 320 for a 3-shear Texel from Jonathan Parker. Other Texels 200- 260 and Blue Texel shearlings 195 and 190. Gimmer lambs started at prompt in the top yard. Today was our second show and sale of Mule and Continental gimmers. The Mule section winners, receiving the TL Haynes Memorial trophy for the umpteenth time, were Walker & Alpe of Saddle End Farms, Chipping.

8 Their first prize sold for 144, 2nd pen 105. Other principal prices: TL, MM & GT Haynes 102, 94, J Shorrock 89 and an overall average of The Continentals topped at 90 for J Pendlebury s first prizes. Thorpe & Kaye 75 and 70 Store lambs were also a better trade but a better class of lamb than last week. Topped again by John Pendlebury at 79. Plenty of lambs in the mid to late 60 s and an overall average of 57. NEXT SATURDAY 22ND SEPTEMBER we welcome breeding sheep of all classes but, it is also our annual horned and hill going day, incorporating the Frank Wade Perpetual Memorial Trophy for Swaledale ewes and the Nathan Wade trophy for Lonks. We also have a special section for Herdwick sheep. We will sell the breeding ewes promptly at in the bottom ring followed by store lambs in the top yard at which seems to be working to ensure definite start times.

9 Today the sale concluded at 2pm.
