2 of 4 SURFACE PREPARATION The surface to be coated must be clean and free from contamination. Prior to paint application all surfaces should be assessed and treated in accordance with ISO 8504:1992. Accumulated dirt and soluble salts must be removed. Dry bristle brushing will normally be adequate for accumulated dirt. Soluble salts should be removed by fresh water washing. Oil or grease should be removed in accordance with SSPC-SP1 solvent cleaning. Unprimed Surfaces Abrasive blast clean to Sa2 (ISO 8501-1:1988) or SSPC-SP6. Surface defects revealed by the blast cleaning process, should be ground, filled, or treated in the appropriate manner. A surface profile of 50-75 microns (2-3 mils) is recommended.
Primed Surfaces Recommended primers should be applied in accordance with the relevant product datasheet. Primed surfaces should be dry and free from all contamination, and should be overcoated according to the intervals specified (consult the relevant product data sheet). Areas of breakdown, damage etc., should be prepared to the specified standard ( Sa2 (ISO 8501- 1:1988) or SSPC SP6, Abrasive Blasting, or SSPC SP11, Power Tool Cleaning) and patch primed prior to overcoating. APPLICATION GMA131 can be incorporated in to the coating system by either pre-mixing or broadcasting Pre- mixing method 1. Refer to appropriate product data sheet. - Agitate Base (Part A) with a power agitator. - Add appropriate quantity of GMA131 to the Base (Part A) and mix thoroughly with a power agitator.
- Combine entire contents of Curing Agent (Part B) with Base (Part A) and mix thoroughly with a power agitator. 2. Immediately apply by roller the mixed product onto the prepared surface 3. Once the unit has been mixed it must be used within the working pot life of the paint used. Broadcast method 1. Compatible products should be mixed and applied in accordance with the relevant datasheet. GMA131 Aggregate should be liberally broadcast to blind the wet surface. 2. Ensure surrounding areas are kept dust free. 3. For large areas it is suggested that bands of material are applied and the process is repeated until coverage is complete. Following cure the system should be firmly brushed with a wide broom to remove any loose and poorly adherent Aggregate .
Excess Aggregate can be collected and reused providing it has not been contaminated with moisture etc. The surface should be dry and free from all contamination before application of a topcoat. Suitable topcoats should be applied within the recommended overcoating intervals using a long haired roller to fully encapsulate the Aggregate . Mix Ratio Pre-mixing method : per 5lt of paint Broadcast method : Typically 2 kg/ sqm. Working Pot Life Refer to appropriate product datasheet. Airless Spray Not recommended Air Spray (Pressure Pot) Not recommended Brush Suitable small areas only Roller Recommended Thinner Appropriate for paint system used Cleaner Appropriate for paint system used Work Stoppages Do not allow material to remain in hoses, gun or spray equipment.
Thoroughly flush all equipment with appropriate cleaner. Once units of paint have been mixed they should not be resealed and it is advised that after prolonged stoppages work recommences with freshly mixed units. Clean Up Clean all equipment immediately after use with appropriate cleaner. It is good working practice to periodically flush out spray equipment during the course of the working day. Frequency of cleaning will depend upon amount sprayed, temperature and elapsed time, including any delays. All surplus materials and empty containers should be disposed of in accordance with appropriate regional regulations/legislation. GMA131 Aggregate Non Slip Aggregate Page No. 3 of 4 PRODUCT CHARACTERISTICS A coating system containing GMA 131 will provide a non-slip finish, suitable for light medium or heavy traffic.
A typical system containing GMA 131 has been tested and does not support a spark with sufficient energy to detonate combustion in an explosive atmosphere. Test report available on request. SYSTEM COMPATIBILITY GMA131 can be used with a limited range of high performance products including: Interseal 670 HS Interzone 954 Intergard 740 For other suitable products, consult International Protective Coatings.
