SCOPE This AGRICULTURAL Standard covers good AGRICULTURAL PRACTICES for PINEAPPLE at all stages of on-farm production and postharvest handlings including packing and/or collecting for distribution.
The PINEAPPLE has its scientific name, Ananas comosus (L.) Merr. of Bromeliaceae family. The standard aims to produce safe and suitable quality PINEAPPLE for fresh consumption and industrial processing, taking into account the environment as well as health, safety and welfare of workers 2. DEFINITIONS For the purposes of this standard, the definitions of TAS 9001 entitled Thai AGRICULTURAL Standard on good AGRICULTURAL PRACTICES for food Crop and the followings are applied: Clean water means water that does not compromise food safety in the circumstance of its use. Sucker/crown means a propagative part of plant for planting. Mature PINEAPPLE means the fruit that reaches the age of harvesting suitable for consumption and /or processing. Harvesting maturity is determined by day count of 150 180 days after the date of flowering forcing, or by observing the skin color change from light to dark green, yellowish green, yellow, or orange yellow.
It may be jointly determined with the flesh color. In case of fruit for processing, flesh shall have not less than 25% and not exceed 75% of yellow for the whole fruit. In case fresh PINEAPPLE for export, the flesh shall be yellow between 10 20% of the whole fruit. In case, those for domestic market, the flesh shall be yellow not less than 50% for the whole fruit depending on variety, production site, season and/or climatic condition. Ratooning means management and care of plant crop in order to have suckers development as first ratoon crop, and consequently after the plant crop has been harvested, second ratoon crop is obtained. 3. REQUIREMENTS Requirements for good AGRICULTURAL PRACTICES for PINEAPPLE shall be as in Table 1. - 2 - TAS 2508-2014 Table 1 Items and GAP Requirements for PINEAPPLE Items Requirements 1.
Water (1) Water used in the planting area Water used in the production processes shall come from sources that do not cause contamination of hazardous substances against produce. In case of risk, water shall be tested by either official or accredited laboratory for hazardous substances. Analytical results shall be kept as evidence. Do not use untreated effluent from industrial factories or other waste water sources community, hospital that can cause contamination of hazardous substances. If it is necessary to use such water, there shall be clear evidence or proof showing that such water has been treated and can be used in the production processes. Take water samples at least once prior to entering the system of production, and take additional samples every time whenever the water sources are likely to be contaminated.
The samples shall be sent to official or accredited laboratory for hazardous substance analysis. Analytical results shall be kept as evidence. Water used for dissolving fertilizers and pesticides shall have quality that does not decrease the solubility of those inputs. Availability of appropriate irrigation method according to the crop water requirement and soil moisture level Availability of appropriate irrigated method to prevent water loss and minimise risk affecting environment of planting and its adjacent areas. Availability of management of wastewater from toilet, other disposal sources etc. in order to minimise risk affecting environment of planting and its adjacent areas.
Maintain the effectiveness of irrigation system. Water source should not be of the environmental destruction. Availability of water source conservation and its environment. Select planting site with sufficient water supply for the production of the quality produce. (2) Water used for postharvest PRACTICES If the water is used for produce cleaning, clean water shall be used. - 3 - TAS 2508-2014 Items Requirements 2. Planting Area Planting area shall not be located in the environment causing contamination of hazardous substances to produce affecting consumer safety.
In case of risk, soil shall be tested by either official or accredited laboratory for hazardous substances contamination. Analytical results shall be kept as evidence. If it is necessary to use such area with risk of contamination, there shall be clear proof that the treatment method is able to reduce the contamination to the safety level. Take soil samples at least once prior to entering the system of production and take additional samples whenever the environment is likely to cause contamination. The samples shall be sent to official or accredited laboratory for hazardous substance analysis. Analytical results shall be kept as evidence. If soil or planting material is fumigated or treated with chemicals to eliminate soil-borne pathogen, chemical type, date, rate and method of application as well as operator name shall be recorded and kept as evidence.
New planting area shall not cause adverse effect to the environment. If it does, mitigation or prevention measures shall be in place. Plot layout, plot preparation or adjustment of the plot layout shall take into account the impacts on food safety, produce quality, environment and worker health, safety and welfare. Maintain planting area in order to prevent soil degradation. PINEAPPLE shall be planted on suitable soil type. Planting PRACTICES do not cause any risk to environmental deterioration. Code and information of planting plots shall be made available by specifying name and address of farm owner, name and address of plot keeper (if any), farm location, farm and plot layouts ,crop types and their varieties.
Provide land use history for at least the past two years Area used for planting shall comply with relevant laws and regulations. 3. Pesticides If pesticide is used, the recommendations of the Department of Agriculture (DOA), Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives or instruction on the label registered with DOA shall be applied.
