These indicators throw light onimportant aspects of family well-being of the population of different hope the data generated under NFHS-5 will be utilized to track the progress ofSustainable Development Goals (SDGs). 4 The NFHS-S, with a reference period2019-2021 would provide vital information on reproductive and child health, fertility and familyplanning, health insurance, nutrition, HIV/AIDS, non-communicable diseases and many otherrelated issues. The compendium of fact sheets covers lndia and 14 States/UTs in Phase-ll. ltprovides a useful demographic and health database which will facilitate a stock taking ofgovernment programmes, and the progress made towards achieving the SustainableDevelopment Goals (SDG) by the years, NFHS has expanded its scope and coverage to fill the gap in the datarequirements of the Government of entities outside the Government and researchers in the fieldof population and health.

5 Like in the previous round, NFHS-S has adopted a modular approachto arrive at estimates of crucial indicators at the State /UT level and a subset of these indicatorsat the district level. This compendium of fact sheets for Phase-ll of NFHS-S releases findingsfor lndia and 14 States/UTs. The estimates of some of the major indicators are also availableat the district level. I hope this crucial information will be effectively utilized for right large-scale survey like NFHS-5 could be accomplished and conducted successfully atthe All lndia level and remaining '14 Phase-ll States/UTs only because of the extensive supportand involvement of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, lnternational lnstitute forPopulation Sciences (llPS), the Chairman & members of the Technical and AdministrativeCommittees, USAID and lCF.

7 These results will be critical to assess the performance ofthe various flagshipprogftrmmes launched by the Govemment in recent years and will also help to devise and framenew policies and plans for the findings from NFHS have always provided valuable pointers to assess the extent ofutilization of various services extended by the Govemment, particutarly in the field of Matemaland Child Health (MCH). Also. the findings from previous rounds were instrumental in fiamingseveral programmes and interventions to tackle the issues identified for sub-optimal performanceon some of the key indicators , specially for improving MCH, adolescent health, child , NFHS-5 results information on several new aspects including, expanded domains ofchild immunization, components of micro-nutrients to children.

8 Frequency of alcohol andtobacco use, additional components of Non-communicable diseases CNCD) and expanded ageranges for measuring hypertension and diabetes among all aged l5 years or above etc. This willgive the necessary pointers for further strengthen of the programmes and identify areas for newstrategies and significant conlribution of NFHS-S is to provide recent estimates ol 30 SDG healthindicators for tracking the progress made towards achieving the SDGs by the year wish to compliment the NFHS team at MoHFW and IIPS for making this valuable contributionto the development of public health systems in lndia.
