Governor-Elect’s Message

* FLORIDA KiwanianGovernor- elect s MessageTreasurer s MessageDave LiddellDonna Parton In a few weeks, we will be at the International Convention in Orlando. WOW!!! Is it possible time has flown this fast? International Conventions are always exciting to me because I meet old friends; see how Kiwanis International is such an important part of making our world a better place; there are classes to help me better understand how Kiwanis works; classes to help my Club start new projects or improve old ones; elect our new leadership for Kiwanis International; visit the store and the exhibit hall; and, this year, I am going to meet a distant relative from Cali-fornia, and I ll be reunited with a group of outstanding individuals I met while at governor - elect Training.

1 * FLORIDA KiwanianGovernor- elect s MessageTreasurer s MessageDave LiddellDonna Parton In a few weeks, we will be at the International Convention in Orlando.

2 This year the Florida District of Kiwanis is going to also be HOSTS; what an opportunity, what a great time to meet new friends! I recently had lunch with Rob Parker (CEO, Kiwanis International). We talked about many things, but the Convention was a main topic. He is happy and pleased that Florida (wearing our ORANGE) is going to be hosting because we are easy to spot and he has experienced the friend-liness of Florida Kiwanians. So let s show our guests the real outstanding way we treat visitors to Florida, especially the Delegates and friends from outside the United States. We know what it is like to be in a different place and different culture. You may remember being out of the United States yourself and sometimes being confused (or was that something just Nancy and I experienced).

3 SO LET S BE FRIENDLY, LOOKING FOR THOSE THAT APPEAR LOST OR CONFUSED, WILL-ING TO HELP AND ASSIST, ALWAYS CORDIAL; this will allow all of Kiwanis International to know that we care about others and we believe in service. Bill Rushing and Carole (of course) have done an outstanding job, along with their various Chairs to make this Convention the best ever. My understanding of Kiwanis has always been REACH OUT AND ALLOW OTHERS TO REACH UP!!! The Orlando Convention will be the best ever, if we truly are the HOSTS!! See you there!Roll out those lazy, hazy, crazy days of The FloridaDistrict of Kiwanis is going to also be hosts; what an opportunity, what a great time to meet new friends. Some of the sentiments of that popular summer refrain may be true, but for Florida Kiwanians, the summer months are not lazy, could be hazy, but definitely are crazy, as they are truly busy months for us.

4 The month of June begins with Club Leadership Education (CLE) Training for incoming Club Presidents, Secretaries, and Treasurers. The middle to end of June we will be crazy with final plans as we prepare to welcome Kiwanians from around the world at our International Convention to be held in Orlando, and the end of August, we will gather in Jacksonville to celebrate our Kiwanis year at our District Convention. Are your Clubs financially prepared for these three major summer events? Although the locations of these three major events may change from year to year, they are typically held during the summer months. As you know, in Kiwanis we have two oper-ating funds, the Service and Administrative Accounts. Monies from the Service Account may only be used for a Club s service projects and Student-Led Programs.

5 However, monies from the Administrative Account may be used to help defray the costs of sending members to CLE and Conventions. While the annual Club dues are the main source of income for the Administrative Account, additional revenue may be obtained from assessments of members or by raising funds within the membership of the Club. Clubs have been having fun raising funds within the membership by some of the following methods: Happy Dollars, Birthday Serenades, Joke Jar, Birthday Auction, Blind Auction, Merchandise Drawings, 50-50 Drawing, Fun Fines, Deck of Playing Cards, Theater Parties, and Special Gift Purchases. These and more methods are explained in the Kiwanis Administrative Bulletin on The Administrative Account. Email me at if you would like a copy of the bulletin.

6 Have a crazy summer. See you at the Conventions.
