This revisionas outlined below allows the glass container manufacturersto work to and provide their customer base one standardfinish construction for both Liquor and Wine end Design and Specifications Committee of the GlassPackaging Institute have consulted a major capsule supplierfor their input and agreement on the following Figure 1 are photos of aluminum capsules for Liquor (BVPfinish) and Wine (BVS finish) containers. The differencesbetween these systems are found in the liner type, application of the capsules, and dimensional Liquor capsule is applied with a topseal pressureblock, whereas the Wine capsule is applied with a top andsideseal pressure block.

2 Note the side seal at the top ofthe Wine capsule. Upon application of the Wine capsule, thetop and sideseal pressure block redraws the aluminumcapsule elongating it approximately .020 [ mm]. Due tothis elongation during application, the Wine finish L dimension on the container s mold neck is also [.51 mm].Side Seal L Liquor Capsule Wine CapsuleFIGURE 1515 King Street, Suite 420, Alexandria, VA 22314 Fax: GPI-1680 GLASS FINISHFOR STEL TYPE CAPSULESTECHNICAL BULLETINPage 2 The S and H dimensions for the Wine finish (BVS) havealso been increased .045 [ mm] and .041 [ mm]respectively to allow the pressure block to form the sideseal without interfering with the thread start and alsomaintaining sufficient thread travel and engagement. SeeFigure 2515 King Street, Suite 420, Alexandria, VA 22314 Fax: GPI-1680 GLASS FINISHFOR STEL TYPE CAPSULESTECHNICAL BULLETINPage 3 These major revisions are on the attached GPI-1680 drawing,1680-03, dated 06/15/2005 and are as follows: S dimension revised to.

3 110 [ ] from .065 [ ]on sizes 30 mm diameter and above. H dimension revised to .409 [ ] from .368 [ ]on sizes 30 mm diameter and above. L dimension increased .020 [.51mm] on sizes 30 mmdiameter and above, along with neck angle controls at the K users of the GPI-1680 finish will need to work withtheir glass container and closure suppliers to transitioninto the revised finish. The closure manufacturer workingwith the Design and Specification Committee has advised thatboth the topseal pressure block and the top and sidesealpressure block can be utilized for this revised Wine end use the top and sideseal pressure block isnecessary and is the only new part that is required on thecapping head. Current capping head thread rollers will needto be adjusted .045 [ mm] for the proper location onthe revised finish. For Wine containers, the vertical loadpressure on the top of the closure is 360 lbf 40 lbf onthe 30mm and Liquor end use the topseal pressure block will not needto be replaced but the current capping head thread rollerswill need to be adjusted.

4 045 [ mm] for the properlocation on the revised finish. For Liquor containers, thevertical load pressure on the top of the closure is 270 lbf 40 lbf on the 30mm and ask that you contact your glass container and closuremanufacturers for planning the transition of the revisedGPI-1680 Finish, and also for any further questions you mayhave in regards to this regards,Design & Specifications Committee ofThe Glass Packaging GPI GPI
