2 GRADING in SA is based around the GRADING GUIDELINES and Order Of Preference that can be viewed through the shortcuts listed above. The GRADING Review Panel continues to review these and other issues. Industry participants are encouraged to make submissions on GRADING issues for the panel to discuss. SHAUN MATHIESON (RACING OFFICER) ELIGIBILITY MAIDEN For greyhounds that have not won any flat race, heat or final of same, where greyhounds race behind an artificial lure, except where such meeting is held under the coursing ties method by clubs registered with the Authority for the purpose of conducting Coursing meetings otherwise than by way of a "walkover". JUVENILE A greyhound is a Juvenile until and including the last day of the month corresponding to its whelping in the second year thereafter and shall remain a Juvenile for any race which was programmed to be run within that period, but was postponed to a subsequent date after that period and, where a greyhound is a Juvenile for a heat of any event, it shall remain a Juvenile after that period for all races leading to and including the final of that event.

3 Greyhounds classified as Juveniles shall be eligible to win two (2) such events, or in the case of Beat the Grader , a greyhound may win three (3). A Maiden can be nominated for these events, provided it has competed in an official qualifying trial or race. If a Maiden greyhound were to win a Juvenile event, that win would count as its Maiden win and it would still be eligible to win a further two (2) Juvenile events (3 Beat the Grader in the case of Angle Park). GRADUATION For greyhounds that have not won a Grade 5 at the time of nomination. Greyhounds are eligible to win one (1) Graduation (2 with a 'Beat The Grader' win at Angle Park) at any two different tracks in South Australia. This is a maximum of two (2) Graduation wins (3 with a 'Beat The Grader' win at Angle Park) in total.

4 " GRADE 5 For greyhounds that have won a Maiden and greyhounds returning from Grade 4. GRADE 4 For greyhounds that have won a Grade 5 and greyhounds returning from Grade 3. GRADE 3 For greyhounds that have won a Grade 4 and greyhounds returning from Grade 2. GRADE 2 For greyhounds that have won a Grade 3 and greyhounds returning from Grade 1. GRADE 1 For greyhounds that have won a Grade 2. MIXED For greyhounds that are Grade 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5. Grades are mixed in consecutive order ( 2/3, 2/3/4). OPEN & FREE FOR ALL For greyhounds that are Grade 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5. PENALTIES & AWARDS PENALTIES Winners advance one (1) grade. AWARDS (Distance up to 536m) Angle Park Three (3) times unplaced drop to next lower grade. All other tracks Two (2) times unplaced drop to next lower grade.

5 AWARDS (Distance over 536m) All tracks Two (2) times unplaced drop to next lower grade. BEAT THE GRADER A greyhound that is dually nominated under the Beat the Grader system and wins at the first meeting, shall not be eligible for a drop back in grade if unplaced at the second meeting. OPEN & MIXED EVENTS Penalties and awards apply. CLASSIC EVENTS No penalties or awards apply. Greyhounds competing in Classic Events must be whelped on or after 1 July, in the year stipulated. SEMI-CLASSIC EVENTS No penalties or awards apply. SPECIAL EVENTS Winners Not penalised. Unplaced greyhounds Awards apply. FREE FOR ALL EVENTS Winners Not penalised. Unplaced greyhounds Awards apply. FEATURE EVENTS Where heats and finals are run, a greyhound winning a heat and/or final is penalised only one (1) grade.

6 Unplaced runs in these events count as only one (1) run towards a drop back in grade. INTERSTATE GREYHOUNDS GRADING OF INTERSTATE GREYHOUNDS Greyhounds owned or trained interstate will be graded on their current grade on the track/or tracks from the state in which they are owned or trained. PURCHASING OF INTERSTATE GREYHOUNDS Greyhounds purchased from interstate by South Australian owners will initially be graded into a Grade 5 events. Provided that the transfer is completed by prior to close of nominations. ORDER OF PREFERENCE CITY & PROVINCIAL TRACKS 1. Last start winner at the track and distance at the previous corresponding meeting. 2. Last start winner (city). 3. Last start placegetter at the track and distance at the previous corresponding meeting.

7 4. Last start placegetter (city). 5. Qualifying heat winner at the track and distance, relevant to the meeting being graded. 6. Downgrade: A greyhound after becoming eligible for a downgrade is entitled to one race start except in the case of Beat the Grader where two race starts are permitted in its correct grade or grades if possible. This applies to greyhounds nominated in Grade 4 up to Grade 2 only. 7. The Grader may include here any greyhound that in the opinion of the Grader is entitled to be graded into the field based on its overall record and/or recent performance/or performances/or performances in feature events, or greyhounds with equal qualifications. The Oaks, Derby, St Ledger & Champion puppy heats that are run on Wednesday mornings, are considered APK (City) events for the purpose of GRADING The following criteria will only apply to performances not more than 3 calendar months prior to the date fixed for the closing time of nominations.

8 The Grader will give preference to performances over 400 metres and further. All Kulpara form will be disregarded when GRADING under these GUIDELINES . 8. Two wins from last three starts (city). 9. Placed two out of last three starts (city). 10. One win from last three starts (city). 11. Last start winner (provincial). 12. Two wins from last three starts (provincial). 13. Last start winner (country) 14. Last start placegetter (provincial) 15. Placed one out of last three starts (city). 16. Two wins from last three starts (country). 17. One win from last three starts (provincial). 18. Placed two out of last three starts (provincial). 19. Reserve greyhounds that did not obtain a start at the previous corresponding meeting (same distance and grade).

PROVINCIAL TRACKS Ballarat (Vic), Beenleigh (QLD),Bendigo (VIC), Bulli (NSW), Casino (NSW), Cessnock (NSW), Cranbourne (VIC), Dapto (NSW), Darwin, Devonport (TAS), Gawler (SA), Geelong (VIC), Gold Coast (QLD), Gosford (NSW), Horsham (VIC), Ipswich (QLD), Launceston (TAS),Lismore (NSW), Maitland (NSW), Mandurah (WA), Nowra (NSW), TAB, Richmond (NSW), Sale (VIC), Shepparton (VIC), Singleton (NSW), Traralgon (VIC), Wangaratta (VIC), Warragul (VIC), Warrnambool (VIC).
