Younger stirks in particular were in good demand whilst the stronger end sometimes looked better value. B+W steers 12-15m generally either side of 400 topping at 580. Angus bred cattle well followed with steers to 800 and heifers to 775. Plenty of Yorkshire buyers. Nervous vendors going home happy.

7 George and David Whitwell took the Champion rosette with their commercial heifer. She was full sister to the July Champion and sold to a final call of 200. 8 - The biggest show for some time with 112 calves forward. Trade a touch sharper for beef calves, hitting a top of 400 from Ian Hodgson with a Blue Bull. Robin Boothman had a run of strong Continentals peaking at 385 for his Blue heifer and 380 x 2 with Blue Bulls. Younger calves 230+. Dairy bulls would sell to similar rates to last week. However, there was a show of young calves with very few strong sorts forward. The eldest and nicest Friesians to 82 on several occasions, nice rearers 67- 78, toping at 90 for a Fleckvieh Bull from SPA Rushton.

Trade for feeding ewes and horned types was similar on the week with heavy and good selling sorts back around 10.

10 Heavy and better bred ewes 80- 100 with leaner sorts 60- 70. Plain types 40- 60. Heavy Mules 65- 71 with the next draw down around 60. Horned ewes to 70, export sorts 45- 58 with smaller types 30- 40. Plain sorts 20+ with others at realisation. Top price of the night was for Texel Rams.
