8 June 2020 Section 1 IntroductionGuidelines on the supplementary tests of in-service lifts LG1 Issue : June 2020 SECTION 1 Page Guidelines apply to supplementary testing in support of thoroughexamination carried out on in-service lifts according to regulation 9(3)(a) of theLifting Operations and Lifting Equipment do not apply to supplementary testing in support of thoroughexamination according to regulation 9(1), 9(2) or 9(3)(b) although they mightbe revised 2006 Guidelines for the supplementary tests of in-service liftswere formulated by a Review Committee comprising owners, users, liftmanufacturers, lift maintenance companies, inspection bodies, lift consultants,enforcement authorities and other professional bodies, chaired by the Healthand Safety Executive.
9 At that point they superseded the original document Lifts Guidelines (LG 1): Guidelines on the thorough examination and testing oflifts, Volumes 1 and 2 , published by SAFed in December 1998, which waswithdrawn. The original 1998 Guidelines in turn replaced the earlier HSE PM7 Lifts which were be aware, that the revised document from 2006 has now been updatedseveral times, refer to SAFed website for most up to date list of organisations represented on the Review Committee can be found atAnnex the purpose of these Guidelines the following terms Competent PersonA Competent Person is someone has such appropriate practicaland theoretical knowledge and experience of the lifting equipment tobe thoroughly examined as will enable them to detect defects orweaknesses and to assess their importance in relation to the safety andcontinued use of the lifting equipment.
