All the visitors this time will actually be staying in Sampford Peverell and Uplowman but you may see them around. Please make them welcome. 6. LETTER FROM COLIN SLADE. Devon County Councillor Tiverton East I was delighted that the new A361 junction was completed on time in June and that traffic is flowing normally for the summer. The contract for the next phase of the resurfacing through to Junction 27 has been awarded to Mildren Construction and work is expected to commence in September. In the meantime, preliminary improvement scheme layouts for improvements to the North Devon Link Road have been approved by Devon County Council's Cabinet. Following agreement from councillors, a full business case for the scheme will now be prepared to be submitted to the Department for Transport (DfT). Devon County Council made a successful bid for 83 million of Local Majors Funding from the DfT in May which will go towards the 93 million scheme.
The funding is subject to a final decision by the DfT once a full business case has been presented by the County Council. The upgrade will widen of the North Devon Link Road from South Molton to Barnstaple to provide more overtaking opportunities. There will also be junction improvements and safety upgrades from South Molton to Bideford. Another good news story, Devon County Council has been named the winner of the Best Overall Report at the PATROL PARC Awards (Parking Annual Report Awards by Councils). The council received the honour at PATROL's annual awards ceremony at the Houses of Parliament last on Tuesday 10 July. The awards recognise the local authorities who have published the best reports on their parking services, as part of their civil enforcement reporting. Councillor Stuart Hughes, the County Council's Cabinet Member for Highway Management, and Chris Rook, Devon's Traffic Management Team Manager, were presented with the award by broadcaster and former MP Gyles Brandreth.
The Best Report Award is judged on how helpful it is to the local community, the policies, scheme design and the quality of the information provided as well as the overall presentation. 7. Moving on from roads to rail. I recently attended a meeting of the Devon and Exeter Rail Project Working Party which is hosted by Devon County Council. We were given an update from Great Western Railway with a presentation by the Assistant Regional Development Manager, Lewis Ward. This included a report on the improvements at Exeter St David's, both to the public areas and the nearby depot due for completion soon. There are improvements on the way later this year to our trains, and while several areas are under review no timetable changes are planned in the near future. The Department for Transport is carrying out a consultation on the new Cross-Country franchise. The consultation refers to the new franchise to start in late 2019 and is available on-line at: This is available for any individual or organisation to respond to with responses required by 2345 hrs on Thursday 30 August 2018.
If you are a rail user on this service I urge you to have your say. I think it is vital that we retain our full services from Tiverton parkway and Taunton. Devon Councils and Devon and Cornwall Police are launching a pilot scheme to help raise finance for local community projects. Devon County, District Councils, Exeter City Council and the Police, are all working with Crowdfunder, to build opportunities for community groups to bid for finance to help local projects get off the ground. The pilot partnership will be called Crowdfund Devon. Crowdfunding is a way of raising money from people who are happy to donate it to good causes, or it's given in return for some sort of reward later. It's an idea that has grown in popularity each year, along with other alternative ways of raising cash. You can find out more here On the subject of funding a reminder my Locality Budget is open for applications as is the newly renamed Communities Together Fund (formerly the TAP fund).
You can find full details on the Devon County Council website or please contact me direct for more information. Colin Slade Devon County Councillor for Tiverton East. 07948 432942. 8. LETTER FROM RAY RADFORD. County and District Councillor Dear Residents You must have enjoyed the summer to date, let`s hope it keeps up for a while. My Policy Development Group deal with issues relating to Environment and we get various Motions to consider. One we rejected was to give Disabled/Handicap Residents a trolley to bring their recycling black boxes to the point of collection for the Recycling Operator. This was defeated because, any such Resident, and we have 662 in MDDC, can apply to MDDC for assisted collection, which means that the Operator will come to your door, empty the box and return it. If you find you are one who needs assistance, then apply to MDDC for that help at no cost. If we supplied the trolleys the Resident would have to pay for it and still take it to the normal collection point.
