The leaves are swirling and the wind is getting nippy! Re-member to dress for the weather. Congratulations to all our cross country runners for their hard work and great success at the Divisional Cross Country Meet. It is ex-citing to go into classrooms and see student learning at its finest. Teachers have also been working on their web sites, with great links to edu-cational activities. You are invited to visit them through our SCHOOL website! at v _ x }t~? 4 Library News Mr. Chody s Chatter It s hard to believe we are already halfway through October. The outdoor garden has lost all of its leaves and the plants are all pulled out for another wintery season. However, the indoor garden is starting to heat up. The lights are on for the grade 3 bean projects and the Eco Club will be having their first meeting next week to start planning for the upcoming garden. Plans are also in develop-ment for starting a new composting project outside with the hopes to further reduce our garbage output.
In the upcoming segments from Chody Chatter, I will be including a section on resources that can be used at home to help support your child s learning at SCHOOL . Today s resource is a website that has some fun math games that can be played at home. Hope you enjoy it! Boozhoo! Hello! My name is Kate McDonald and I'm very excited to join the wonderful community of HAPPY THOUGHT SCHOOL as the new librarian! Some stu-dents and parents may al-ready know me through my work as a writer and story-teller including my time with the HTS Writers Club. It was awesome to see the books we published on dis-play when I walked into the library on my first day.
I'm really enjoying getting to know students and staff and look forward to meeting families during our SCHOOL Book Fair in November! I'd like to take this oppor-tunity to say Chii Miigwech/Thank you/Dyakuju to the whole HTS community for supporting our library through the Indigo Adopt-A- SCHOOL fundraiser! We will have the official results from Indigo on Friday, Octo-ber 23rd. At this point we have raised an amazing $1300 for our library to purchase new books!!! Our students are all very excited and have been adding to our wish list at each library class.
We so appreciate that you took the time to adopt us every day and shared the contest with family and friends. If you haven't looked at the blog we kept, please check it out. The link to our contest page is on the front page of the HTS web-site. We have a "thank you" video that the students made, featuring the many languages we speak at HTS! October Highlights: "Fortunately, Unfortunately" and all the different stories we made with that idea! Making our Indigo Wish Lists. Writing with 3-U. Checking out the Halloween books! Watch for information about the Scholastic Book Fair to come home with your child next month!
Miigwech/Thank you! Mrs. McDonald, Library Clerk Reminder The SCHOOL cannot adminis-ter any medication without a medical form filled out. This form can be found on-line on our website or you can pick one up from the office. Mrs. Neil s Two Sense Hello HAPPY THOUGHT SCHOOL families! The last two months have flown by as I am sure it has been quite busy for everyone. I have really enjoyed getting to know your children and working in their classrooms. As a SCHOOL this year we are enthusiastically continuing a character development pro-gram called Bucket Filling which is an easy-to-understand concept: Everyone carries an invisible bucket that holds our good thoughts and feelings.
When our buckets are full, we feel HAPPY and when our buckets are empty, we feel sad. The Bucket Filling program focuses on kindness and empathy. Some ways that students fill buckets can be done by: helping others, being kind, considerate, caring, and respectful. They also learn that when they are mean, inconsiderate, uncar-ing, or disrespectful, they dip into buckets and remove those good feelings. Even the youngest child understands that actions and words can either fill a bucket or dip into it. This SCHOOL year we are encouraging, reminding, and recognizing everyone s efforts to be bucket fillers at home, at SCHOOL , and everywhere they go.
We are excited about this program and look forward to your support. We will start our program during the last week of October. Students can fill out a form stating who has filled their bucket and can explain how. The forms can be placed in classroom buckets which will be collected weekly. Each month at assembly I will draw five ballots from the main SCHOOL bucket. The bucket filler will be recognized for their act of kindness and will receive a prize. Some parents may find it helpful using this language at home as well to help reinforce the concept.
