2 Between now and February, Lake Washington School District is reviewing and making changes to the boundaries that determine which students attend which schools. We Green Team do not yet know how our School might be affected. However, there is an easy way to keep up with the activities of the committee that is working on these changes. 4 A few important things: The pre-assessment for the Best in Class students will be held this Thursday, October 16th (after the noon release) from 12:15pm-1:30pm in the School Library. Check your inbox for a more detailed email regarding this assessment. The Speak Easy program has been canceled for the Fall session due to low enrollment. We just need ONE MORE student to reach the minimum enrollment level needed for Sports Spectacular. Which 3rd-5th grader out there would like to join in to ensure that we can run this program? Parents, please double-check the scheduled dates of programs for your registered child(ren), as well as the dates that the club will NOT be held ( due to holidays). Plan to pack an extra (non-sticky) snack for them to enjoy after School lets out and before their club begins There are some clubs that still have space. Should there be any last-minute decisions to join; visit this link to register and/or email us if you need help: Also, PARENT VOLUNTEERS ARE STILL NEEDED for many of the clubs to help sign students in/out, as well as to remain on-site during the club.

5 We've had some parents step up to volunteer to do this for the ENTIRE session, and we are very grateful to them for doing so. Parents, please check your inbox in the next few days for requests to support these volunteer opportunities. These clubs CANNOT run without the help of parent volunteers, as this effort ensures the safety of all children participating in the clubs. We're excited for next week! Email us with any questions you may have. Contacts: Christine Druckhammer, Janene Roudebush, PTSA General Meeting All PTSA Members are invited to our first General Meeting of the year on October 23rd, from 7-9pm in the Library. This is a wonderful opportunity to bring what's on your mind to the table with our Principal! At our first General Meeting we will have a Parent-Education Speaker, Janitzia Pizarro, from the Lake Washington PTSA Council on the topic of "Common Core.

6 " This presentation will give you a little more background information on what Common Core is, where it came from, and how it relates to our curriculum at Sandburg/DCS. The Common Core Presentation will take place from 7:20-8pm. Join your PTSA and take advantage of an opportunity to learn about what is going on in your children's School ! You may email Kelly to RSVP or to arrange pick-up of your donation (checks to Hopelink only) prior to the luncheon.

Volunteers will prepare food packs to be sent home with students on weekends, when School breakfasts and lunches are not available. These are family friendly events that not only teach the importance of community service - they are also a great way to support people in our own amazing community. Kids under 15 must bring adult supervision. Contact: Liz Waesche, "Everything is Awesome!" Dance Marathon Movie Night Friday, October 24th is the Dance Marathon Movie Night! Hurray for a great movie and a fun evening with friends and family to celebrate our School 's awesomeness! 10 Please make sure you have emailed Caroline Adam if you are planning to attend, as well as if you are willing to volunteer (pass out pizza and snacks). We need to be able to anticipate the number of parents and kids so we are prepared with both goodies and extra hands! All children must have a parent present at all times. Contact: Caroline Adam, Green Team Herbicide Free A big thank you to all the families that came out to support our first Herbicide Free work party of the year! We continue to have a beautiful, chemical free campus because of the hard work of these volunteers. Interested in finding out more about this great group of people? Please mark your calendars and plan to join us at our next work party on Sunday, October 26th from 11- 1pm. Energy Bar Wrappers We are collecting energy bar wrappers again this year. Our School earns 2 cents per wrapper! Just have your child bring accumulated wrappers to Mrs.
