2 Responsible for meeting the Head Start performance standards and following Agency policies and procedures. essential JOB DUTIES: I. HEALTH AND NUTRITION SERVICES A. Ensure, in collaboration with work site supervisors, that the EHS and HS program meets federal and state performance standards in prenatal/infant/toddler/child HEALTH , NUTRITION and safety; B. Direct the provision of HEALTH screenings; C. Ensure, in collaboration with work site supervisors, that all children receive dental and physical examinations and HEALTH related services, as required; D. Develop case management, monitoring systems, materials, and resources for the provision of HEALTH and NUTRITION services; E.

3 Direct/provide the training of Family Advocates, EHS Specialists, and work site supervisors in the responsibilities of child HEALTH and safety; F. Serve as a resource to EHS and HS education staff for HEALTH and safety classroom curriculum and activities; G. Serve as a HEALTH resource for staff and parent groups and contribute articles for parent newsletters; H. Review medical records and determine child HEALTH needs for Family Advocates, EHS Specialists, and work site supervisors to do follow-up. I. Ensure the two week post-partum home visit requirement is met for pregnant women enrolled in EHS. II.

4 COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS AND PUBLIC RELATIONS A. Ensure that the HEALTH Services Advisory Council engages in the activities required by the performance standards; B. Develop and maintain connections with community HEALTH providers; C. Develop and maintain positive public relations and parent involvement; D. Collaborate with community professionals and agencies to develop and access services for EHS and HS children and families. III. ASSESSMENT, MONITORING, AND PLANNING A. Develop and train employees in record keeping and data collection; B. Assess and monitor the EHS and HS program to ensure compliance with the performance standards and regulations in areas of child HEALTH , NUTRITION and safety; C.

5 Work closely with work site supervisors and other DEPARTMENT managers to maintain high quality services throughout the EHS and HS programs; D. Use information from assessment and monitoring to develop and provide necessary training in areas of HEALTH and safety; HEALTH / NUTRITION 0-5 Dept Director Page - 2 E. Oversee assigned budgets; IV. SUPERVISION A. Supervise EHS and HS HEALTH Supervisors, Contract Nutritionist, and HEALTH Screeners; B. Assign and monitor HEALTH DEPARTMENT staff job responsibilities; C. Assess and monitor Family Advocates, EHS Specialists, and HS teaching staff for work performance appraisals, making recommendations for improvements, training, and employee goals; D.

6 Participate in regular meetings with other management staff. V. WORK PLANS, POLICIES, PROCEDURES, AND FORMS A. Develop/revise work plans, manuals, policies and procedures, forms, record keeping and data collections systems, as needed; B. Develop, write, and present grant proposals, as needed. VI. STAFF AND FACILITY SAFETY A. Work closely with the HR & Employee Safety Manager, work site supervisors, DEPARTMENT managers, and Agency operations staff to insure site compliance in HEALTH , safety, and environmental standards, per local, state, and federal requirements. VII. INTERACTION WITH CHILDREN, PARENTS, AND CO-WORKERS A.

7 Must relate in a positive, nurturing way, both verbally and physically, and be sensitive to the needs of children. B. Experience: Five years experience in HEALTH and NUTRITION field; three years management experience; prior experience working with: Head Start, low income families, children, community HEALTH , HEALTH HEALTH / NUTRITION 0-5 Dept Director Page - 3 promotion, disease prevention, early intervention, training, HEALTH education and planning. 4. essential Skills: Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, leadership and staff supervision skills, proficiency in basic computer software; ability to collaborate with other Agency departments, work under pressure and meet deadlines; possess knowledge of community resources for families.

10 5. essential Mental Abilities: Extensive knowledge of HEALTH services related to early childhood development in 0-5 year olds. Ability to multitask, exercise logical judgment, analyze, research, organize and prioritize. Ability to work as a team member and to be self directed. 6. essential Physical Requirements: Ability to occasionally lift and carry 15 lbs. a distance of 15 feet, ability to sit for extended periods of time, up to 8 hours per day. Sufficient mobility, strength and range of motion to occasionally stand, kneel or squat, reach, twist and bend. Sufficient manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to perform repetitive keyboarding and fine motor activities; sufficient vision and hearing to perform job duties.
