Our products are used mostly at facilities of producers and manufacturers. Key users are hot-mix asphalt (HMA) plants, asphalt terminals, emulsion terminals and concrete producers. Other key users include oil and gas pro-ducers, chemical producers, food producers, roofing manufactur-ers, power plants, FLUID HEATERSH eatec specializes in thermal fluid heaters, espe-cially those with helical coils heated by fired burn-ers. They are extremely versatile and used in a wide variety of industries. They are also known as hot oil heaters. Oil and gas producers know them as HMO ( heat Medium Oil) heaters.

In any case the burner heats the thermal fluid that circulates through the heater coil and through heating coils in other equipment. A single heater can heat one or more thermal fluid circuits with multiple pieces of equipment. Temperatures at the equipment can be controlled 6 PROCESS HEATERSOur process heaters are designed to heat a spe-cific type of fluid as it flows through the heater. The type of fluid may vary and may be liquid or gas. Process heaters heat fluids directly whereas thermal fluid heaters heat thermal fluid, which in turn heats other equipment indirectly.

We offer a wide variety of process heaters used by a wide variety of producers and manufacturers. Some process heaters are better known by other names: booster heaters, gas regen heaters, reboil-ers, water bath heaters, vaporizers, and convec-tion 8 PUMP SKIDS Our pump skids are usually adjuncts to our heat -ers. They may also include an expansion tank. Most pump skids are separate from the heater. Pump skids usually have two or more pumps . One is usually a back-up pump, needed if the system cannot be shut down for maintenance. Use of separate skids provides flexibility in plant layout.

They eliminate the need to mount multiple pumps on the heater skid and allow the heater package to be smaller. 9 heat EXCHANGERS Our heat exchangers include economizers, booster heater exchangers and steam generators. The economizers recover heat from exhaust gases of the heater. This heat would otherwise be lost into the atmosphere. Instead, it is used to pre- heat thermal fluid or to preheat combustion air for the heater s burner. It reduces the amount of fuel required for the heating process. Our booster heat exchangers boost the tempera-ture of asphalt cement as it flows through the unit.

Heating is provided by hot oil from an external source such as a thermal fluid heater. Our steam generators produce steam by heating water with hot thermal fluid from a thermal fluid heater. Steam generators replace fired boilers and minimize explosion hazards associated with them. 10 WATER HEATERSWe make water heaters for a wide variety of indus-trial uses. Most have gas fired burners. Firestorm is the brand name of our most popular water heater. It is a direct contact water heater that heats water on demand and provides a con-stant supply of instant hot water.

It has an ex-tremely high thermal efficiency. Special versions of the Firestorm heater are avail-able with NSF certification for food also offer a helical coil heater for heating wa-ter. It is similar to a thermal fluid heater, except it heats water as it is pumped through its helical coil to an external storage tank or reservoir. The water does not normally recirculate through the also offer a combination unit that is a storage tank with a burner and fire 12 FUEL PREHEATERS We make a variety of fuel preheaters. They can be used at virtually any facility that has to preheat fuel before it can be burned.

They are widely used at HMA plants to heat fuel for drum mixers and aggregate dryers. They are used at asphalt terminals to preheat fuel for heat -ers that heat the storage tanks. Preheaters can be skid mounted. Or can be mount-ed on a chassis with a portable fuel tank. Or can or embedded in a fuel tank. Modulating controls precisely control fuel temper-ature within one or two degrees of set point. As an option, the preheater can be built to ASME We design and build the controls for our heaters, tanks, polymer systems and related products. Advanced controls for our automated systems are computerized and employ PLCs.

We use a variety of control panels, including those classified for hazardous locations in NFPA code. According to the code, Class I, Divisions 1 and 2 are locations where fire or explosion hazards may exist due to flammable gases or also provide motor control centers built by Astec for operation of asphalt terminals and emul-sion plants. The control center centralizes all electrical power for the terminal and for the motor controls. 14 TANKSWe make tanks for storage of the following types of liquids: virgin asphalt, polymer modified as-phalt, emulsified asphalt, additives, chemicals, fuel and water.

Tanks may be heated or unheated, insulated or uninsulated, portable or stationary, vertical or horizontal, double or single walled, etc. Capacities range up to 35,000 gallons for factory assembled tanks may have one or more compart-ments. They may be built as combination units to include other components. They may include a hot oil heater, a fuel preheater, calibration tank, unloading pump, 16 TERMINALSH eatec is heavily involved in building new asphalt storage terminals and asphalt emulsion plants. We do major mechanical design and electrical engineering work for these facilities in addition to building much of the equipment.
