NOTEWORTHY NEWS AND NOTICES HEAT TIPS Water is the best fluid to drink and it is important to consume water even when you are not thirsty. Continue to drink fluids even after strenuous activity. This will enable the body to maintain optimum hydration and help prevent the after effects of heat exposure such as headaches and fatigue. AVOID drinking liquids with large amounts of sugar, alcohol or caffeine products as they may dehydrate you further.
AVOID very cold beverages as they cause stomach cramps. DO NOT take salt tablets unless directed by your doctor. Heavy sweating removes salt and minerals from the body. These are necessary for your body and must be replaced. Some medications, both prescription and over-the-counter, may increase the risk of heat-related illness. Consult your physician if you have questions. -Dick Gothier, CWPV Patrol Manager PALM TREE TRIMMING TIME Palms are typically trimmed in June. The reason we do palms this time of year is because the seed pods grow out and are messy and unsightly. Having your tree trimmed after the seed pods emerge ensures that you get a full year to enjoy a properly trimmed, clean tree. The Compliance Officer will start checking HOMEOWNER palm trees starting in July. GET INVOLVED IN YOUR COMMUNITY-VOLUNTEER TO BE ON A COMMITTEE We are currently seeking homeowners to volunteer for the 2018-2019 committee year that commences November 1st.
Committee Member Application Forms are available at the Administration Center or can be downloaded from our website: under "Downloadable Forms." Completed forms must be returned to the Administration Center by Friday, September 14th. The Association has nine standing committees that support the Board of Directors: Architectural Compliance Facilities & Grounds Golf Audit & Finance Election Recreation Communications Food & Beverage Safety, Security & Access Tenure on committees is limited to two years. If you are finishing your first term on a committee and plan to reapply for a second term, you must complete and turn in a new application. NOTE: Applicants are encouraged to select more than one committee preference so that they can be considered by multiple committees. Committee meetings are typically held on a monthly basis, although some committees do not meet during the summer months.
Current Committee meeting dates, times and locations are posted on the website and in The Flyer. In the following weeks, we will highlight the individual committees in The Flyer. ODDS & ENDS The Flyer ODDS & ENDS Page 2 FITNESS ACTIVITY CENTER UPDATE Our architect, Ken Eller, has been in touch with the County Planner assigned to our project. The Plan of Development (POD) is moving through the process. We believe that the County s requirements have been met with exception of submittal of the final construction plans for review and approval. This action will occur once Mr. Eller and his team have made any changes that may be required by the County after the review of the POD. As of now, we remain on schedule to begin construction late Fall 2018, with completion to follow 10 months later.
As always, this schedule is subject to the County approving the plans in a timely manner. HAVE YOU CHECKED YOUR MAILBOX The notices for the second half of the annual HOMEOWNER dues were mailed May 15. The second half for Cottonwood residents is $ and for Palo Verde residents, $ (includes gate fee).Payment is due by Monday, 7/2/18. Billing notices are mailed as a courtesy. Even if you do not receive a billing notice you are still responsible for paying your dues on time. NOTE: If you are enrolled in auto-debit for your HOMEOWNER dues or have already paid your second half dues, you may disregard this notice. PAST DUE ASSESSMENTS Please remember, if you did not select an option and did not make your first payment for the Fitness Activity Center by April 30, 2018 you are now delinquent. Accounts that are delinquent will be sent a late notice with penalties. Per Board Policy 4-05, accounts that are delinquent 180 days will cause litigation to be initiated in order to resolve the delinquency.
All collection costs will be the responsibility of the member. PLEASE DRIVE 25! Please remember the SPEED LIMIT in Cottonwood and Palo Verde is a maximum of 25 MPH. Why? Because we have walkers, pets, bikers, and golf carts on our roads and we all want to be safe. Some of us still work, so we must be somewhere on a schedule. Thank goodness, some of us are involved in our community by serving on committees or belonging to one of our fine recreation clubs. Guess what? The speed limit is still 25 MPH! Please pay attention to your surroundings when driving on our streets. Please pay attention to the road signs when driving on our streets. Please use your turn signals when driving on our streets. AND PLEASE WATCH YOUR SPEEDOMETER WHEN DRIVING ON OUR STREETS! Thank You! -Dick Gothier, CWPV Patrol Manager THE HEAT IS ON---PROTECT YOUR PETS Summer Tips from the Arizona Humane Society to keep your pets safe: 1.
Try to keep dogs, cats and other pets indoors. 2. Provide them with plenty of cool fresh water and shade. 3. Do not leave pets in a hot parked car. It is a crime. 4. Walk pets early in the morning or after sundown. 5. Protect your animals' feet from burns. (Hot asphalt and sidewalk temperatures can reach 160 degrees.) 6. Know the signs of heat exhaustion. Loud rapid panting, rapid pulse, glazed eyes, excessive salivation, elevated body temps, whining, agitation, staring or vomiting. To cool your pet down place in the shade, apply cool water especially on the head and feet. If necessary seek immediate care.
