EXAMINATION Regulations 1. Candidates in breach of any regulations or requirements are subject to penalty. B. Entry Qualifications 2. A person may enter for the 2018 Hong Kong DIPLOMA of SECONDARY EDUCATION EXAMINATION (HKDSE) as a private candidate provided he/she satisfies one of the following requirements: (1) Sat the previous HKDSE or an equivalent EXAMINATION , or (2) Reached the age of 19 by 1 January 2018, or (3) Completed or is pursuing a non-HKDSE curriculum equivalent to SECONDARY 6 in 2017/2018.

2 3. The Authority may consider applications from persons possessing other qualifications or pleading special circumstances. Persons who have sat other public examinations are expected to demonstrate a suitable level of competence in the same subject(s) entered for the EXAMINATION and may be required to provide supporting documents from their schools, if applicable. Persons who are currently pursuing an HKDSE curriculum will not normally be considered for special entry to the EXAMINATION . Exceptional cases may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

3 Applications under this regulation must be made in writing to the Secretary General of the HKEAA on or before 9 October 2017. 4. A candidate may only enter for the 2018 HKDSE either as a school candidate or as a private candidate but not both in the 2018 HKDSE. He/she may not submit more than one entry for the 2018 HKDSE, whether for the same or different subjects. C. Selection of Subjects 5. The September registration covers Category A and Category B subjects. The Category C June series examinations will cease to be offered with effect from the 2018 HKDSE.

4 6. Registration for Category A subjects (1) 24 Senior SECONDARY subjects are offered in the Category A examinations. In any subjects examinable in both Chinese and English, candidates may enter for one language version only in the same EXAMINATION . (2) For subjects with a School-based Assessment (SBA) component, private candidates are not required to complete the SBA component of the subjects entered (except Visual Arts). Their subject marks will be based entirely on their public EXAMINATION results. For Visual Arts in which the SBA component carries a weighting of 50%, private candidates will be required to submit a portfolio in lieu of the SBA.

5 They are also required to complete a statement of authenticity of their portfolios and to certify the authenticity of their work. If dishonesty is evidenced, the candidate will be subject to subject downgrade or even disqualification from the EXAMINATION and a record will be kept. (3) Private candidates may enter for any practical subjects which require laboratory / workshop facilities ( Biology / Chemistry / Physics / Combined Science / Integrated Science / Technology and Living) only if they can produce evidence of having sat the subject in a previous HKDSE or in an equivalent public EXAMINATION , or having completed or is currently pursuing the study of the subject up to a level equivalent to the HKDSE in the year preceding the EXAMINATION .

6 Notwithstanding this provision, the HKEAA will not accept entries from private candidates for the subject Design and Applied Technology. 2 (4) As a private candidate, you should pay attention to the following notes when entering for the subjects below: Chinese Language If you choose to take Chinese Language in Cantonese, both Paper 3 (Listening & Integrated Skills) and Paper 4 (Speaking) examinations will be conducted in Cantonese. If you choose to take Chinese Language in Putonghua, both Paper 3 (Listening & Integrated Skills) and Paper 4 (Speaking) examinations will be conducted in Putonghua.

7 Mathematics You may choose to take either the Compulsory Part only or the Compulsory Part plus one of the modules of the Extended Part. As the Compulsory Part and the Extended Part of Mathematics are counted as one subject only, candidates must choose the same language version for both parts. Biology / Chemistry / Physics / Combined Science / Integrated Science Only one subject in each of the following groups may be entered for in the same EXAMINATION : Group 1: Biology, Integrated Science, Combined Science (Biology, Chemistry), Combined Science (Biology, Physics) Group 2: Chemistry, Integrated Science, Combined Science (Biology, Chemistry), Combined Science (Chemistry, Physics) Group 3: Physics, Integrated Science, Combined Science (Biology, Physics), Combined Science (Chemistry, Physics) Note.

8 Please also read Paragraph 6(3) above for the entry requirements of private candidates entering for Category A practical subjects which require laboratory / workshop facilities. Music You are required to provide the supplementary information such as the musical instrument to be used for Paper 2 (Performing I) and the elective part (Paper 4A / Paper 4B / Paper 4C) in the relevant form when registering online via the Registration System. If you wish to apply for exemption from the EXAMINATION for Paper 4B / Paper 4C, you should produce proofs of recognised qualifications and upload them to the Registration System.

9 You are also required to submit the original copy of the supporting document(s) to the HKEAA Southorn Centre office for verification on or before 15 January 2018. No further update on recognised qualifications is allowed after 15 January 2018. Candidates entering for the subject Music Paper 2 and / or Paper 4B but have not been exempted from the relevant EXAMINATION should note the following points for taking the practical EXAMINATION : (a) The HKEAA will only provide a piano for the Music practical EXAMINATION .

10 Candidates or accompanists who use instruments other than the piano must provide them on their own. (b) Candidates must perform on the instrument(s) and / or voice chosen upon registration. Performance on extra instrument(s) or voice not chosen during registration will not be assessed by examiners. On the other hand, candidates who fail to perform on all instrument(s) and / or voice chosen during registration will receive a mark penalty. (c) Candidates must write in to the Authority within the registration period if the practical EXAMINATION is unsuitable to be conducted in a designated centre which is a room with a piano.
