For more information, visit Lions Clubs International FoundationWhat is AHAP?The Lions affordable hearing Aid Project(AHAP) enables Lions to provide high-quality,low-cost hearing aids to individuals who would otherwise never be able to afford Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) has partnered with hearing aid manufacturer Rexton, Inc. to offer three types of digital hearing aids for low-income individualsthrough Lions hearing programs and Lionsclubs. Currently, Lions AHAP is a pilot program available only in the United States. In AHAP, Lions work with local hearing careprofessionals. AHAP s continuum of care modelinvolves not only providing hearing aids tothose who need them, but also giving themcomprehensive care which includes testing, fitting the aids and providing follow-up care.

Determining if potential recipients meet eligibilityrequirements (using the Income Qualification Form)3. Recruiting partner hearing care professionals andarranging for testing4.

5 Filling out the Order Form, Application Form, andIncome Form then sending them (along with payment) to LCIF5 . Providing assistance, if needed, as the hearing careprofessional fits the aid and provides follow-upcare to make adjustments as necessary6. Sharing in the cost of the hearing aid, shipping and fittingHow Does AHAP Work? hearing loss affects 278 million people people are not able to pay the high cost of qualityhearing aids which cost an average of US$4,500each and are often not covered by insurance they areleft in silence, or with poor-functioning hearing million Americans have hearing loss, andthe 7 million Americans who cannot afford hearingaids have become an underserved population. At age 65, one out of three people has a hearing AHAP, Lions can make a real difference inthe quality of life of people with hearing and HearingLions have had a long-standing commitment to servingthose with hearing loss.

6 LCIF has awarded 150 grantstotaling $ million for hearing -related projects aroundthe world. Projects have included hearing screenings,homes for children with hearing impairment, medicalequipment, educational hearing programs and hearingaid collection, refurbishment and is a continuation of this work by taking Lions concern and compassion for those with hearing impairment to a stronger level of commitment.
