3 Be sure to remove allwax, silicone, powdery or scaling rust, loose or peelingpaint and all other foreign matter. Smooth, slick surfacesshould be sanded to give a mechanical tooth to promoteadhesion. Prime bare and uncoated surfaces with one ofthe following Ellis Primers: 600 Solventborne Series,1200 Waterborne Series, Maximus 4400 Series orMaximus 7900 Series FERROUS METAL:Clean off all dirt, grease oil,wax or other foreign matter. All loose, powdery or scalingrust must also be removed. A completely de-rustedsurface is recommended. Prime with Ellis Primer. NON-FERROUS METALS:Clean the surface a prep coat of HY-LUX 690 Low VOC Etching Filleras a first coat over the non-ferrous metal to etch thesurface and promote adhesion.
4 Allow 30 minutes to dryand follow with a coat of Ellis Primer within 8 8 hours, the HY-LUX 690 Low VOC Etching Fillershould be lightly sanded before applying the first coat ofEllis SURFACES:Be sure all loose and peelingpaint is completely removed, and the surface is excess chalkiness with a wire brush or bysanding. Feather edge and spot prime with Ellis :Mix thoroughly before use and/or after POLYURETHANE CATALYST:For increasedperformance, 8499 Polyurethane Catalyst may be addedto HY-LUX 3100 Series ENAMEL . Refer to the 8499 Polyurethane Catalyst label for directions andprecautions regarding applying products SCHEDULE WITH 8499 POLYURETHANECATALYST:Dry times are based on recommended dryfilm thickness of - mils.
5 Thicker films willextend dry times. Air dry times at 77 F and 50% - Dust-free, 1 - 2 hours, Tack-free 4 - 6 hours,Tape-free, 24 hours, Force dry time at 120 F - 40 minutesTHINNING:DO NOT EXCEED LOCAL VOC REQUIREMENTS. Inregulated areas, use Ellis 80/20 Zero VOC Exempt Spraying:Thin to spray viscosityFor Brushing or Rolling: Thin : Two coats are recommended. To avoidwrinkling, the second coat must be applied in 30 minutes to 2hours, or after a minimum of one week from the time ofapplying the first coat. DRY TIME (@77 F):DUST-FREE: 4 - 6 hours, DRY TOHANDLE 16 hours, RECOAT: 30 minutes to 2 hours, or after aminimum of one week, FULL CURE: 7 :Equipment should be thoroughly cleanedimmediately after use in an enclosed spray equipmentcleaner with Ellis 80/20 Zero VOC Exempt LIFE:Shelf life is 2 years from date of manufacturewhen stored at temperatures not to exceed 90 F.
