1 NOT TO BE USED FOR COMMERCIAL OR MARKETING PURPOSES 17th April 2014 Hydrocortisone modified release tablet (Plenadren ) for the treatment of adrenal insufficiency. The New Therapies Subgroup discussed the above drug at a meeting on the 17th April 2014. The recommendation of this subgroup is as follows:* The New Therapies Subgroup of the GMMMG considered the use of Hydrocortisone modified release tablets (Plenadren ) for the treatment of adrenal insufficiency. The group does not recommend the use of Hydrocortisone modified release tablets for the above indication. The group noted that there is no evidence that short term changes in some surrogate measures of disease reduces morbidity or mortality. In addition the annual per patient cost of Hydrocortisone MR tablets (assuming a 20mg dose) would be 2,920 compared to immediate release tablets at 622. It was also noted that data from three validated quality of life questionnaires showed that compliance was the same with both the MR and immediate release products.
2 According to set criteria Plenadren was deemed to be a low priority for funding.
