Feel free to highlight in your DGR as we go through important sections Please be sure to download the workbook below. You don t need to print itunless you want to, but at least save it to your computer so you can refer to it in future modules. You will ONLY be able to download it here, in the first (of several) modules. If the .pdf doesn t load right away, watch for signs of a pop-up blocker. 2 This will add 2 to 3 hours to your standard iata training program, so if you re never going to load or fly an airplane, just skip this by clicking next. We've broken this program up into learning units and each unit will have it's own exam. Each exam requires an 80% score to pass. You can take two retakes of each exam (which is normally less than 10 individual questions). You must pass all exams to complete the program. This program is challenging but everything is open book, and you need to have a current copy of the dangerous Goods regulations . You can start and stop this program at any time and we'll keep track of your progress, even during the exams.

5 These articles and substances, if uncontrolled, could adversely affect the safety of the passengers, crews, and aircraft. Experience in other modes of transport had demonstrated that most dangerous items could be carried safely, provided that the items were properly packaged, and that the quantities in each package were properly limited. Mod 1 Safety is Priority Number One!Because safety is our number one priority, we need to have detailed and precise regulations for the preparation, acceptance and carriage of a wide range of chemicals and other dangerous substances. It is your responsibility to ensure that these hazardous materials are properly packed, marked, labeled, and Mod 1 iata DGR Provides Procedures for DG Shipments by AirThe iata dangerous Goods regulations , or DGR, provides procedures for the shipment of hazardous materials by air.

6 You will need to have a copy of the DGR with you as you go through this training. This training program addresses the rules in the DGR and how they affect you and this company. It is this company s responsibility (as your employer) to provide this the goal of this training program is to teach you to read and use the actual regulations , it s important that you put your attention on the book rather than trying to actually read the DGR images on the Mod 1 Examples of dangerous GoodsDangerous goods are articles or substances which are capable of posing a significant risk to health, safety, or property when transported, and which are classified as a dangerous good by the DGR. Some examples of dangerous goods are explosives, flammable substances, toxic substances, corrosive materials, and radioactive Mod 1 iata (and Labelmaster Air Shipper Rules ) based on ICAOIATA is a trade group -- an association that has no regulatory authority.

7 All legal authority comes from ICAO which in turn is referenced in 49 CFR (our United States DG rules) as an acceptable substitute for some DOT , which is an agency of the United Nations follows guidelines from the UN Multimodal "Orange Book" to establish it's Trade Group iata , as well as the private company -- Labelmaster, have included (embedded) the ICAO regulations in their own guidebooks. Because of this, when you comply with these rules ( Labelmaster s "Air Shipper" or iata 's "DGR") you automatically comply with ICAO and thus Mod 1 Use of the ICAO Technical Instructions as Alternative to 49 CFR49 CFR always applies when transporting DGs to, from, through or within the can use ICAO and thus iata to take the place of certain parts -- but not all -- of 49 most important thing that all air carriers operating in the US (foreign or domestic) are governed by Part 175 of 49 CFR even if they're strictly following iata /ICAO.

8 "USG-01" is the key variation found in iata /ICAO that refers to 49 CFR which gives permission to US and Foreign Air Carriers to use ICAO to substitute for parts of 49 Mod 1 The Variations section was recently moved from iata to iata s ResponsibilitiesThe shipper, and those who offer dangerous goods for transport must ensure that they are properly identified, classified, packed, marked, labeled, and rules apply to the preparation of shipments, and offering and transport of shipments. Receiving and warehousing of DG by the final consignee is not necessarily covered under these rules. Pay special attention to the wording in the regulations the words shalland must indicate a mandatoryrequirement and the words may and should indicate a recommendation. 10 Ultimately, only the employer can certify the employee. Instructors from third parties may not know much about an employees job function and 100% of the time it is the responsibility of the employer to certify that the employee is properly trained for their training program will help them do that by providing training in the four areas listed the US, the employer must maintain training records for the employee as outlined in as shown above. The employer is allowed to use a third party trainer to help them certify Mod 1 Some Guidelines for Quizzes and Exams Always look for the very BEST answer to a given question.
