3 From a mere $67 per capita income in thesixties, it now enjoys over $20,000 per capita income, and democracy in the politicshas also settled down as the administrations have changed hands several timesthrough peaceful elections. Moreover, Korea is one of the few countries whichreceived ODA (Official Development Assistance), but turns around and now providesODA. The history of Korean ODA, however, is rather short and has not achieved asmuch as expected, partly due to the lack of specialists in this this regard, Korean Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development hascalled for proposals for educating experts in international development cooperationin 2007, and our graduate school, GSP, has been chosen for its accumulatedexpertise in international education, and for its excellence of the proposedprogram.

4 Not only GSP educated Koreans and foreigners in international studies, butalso has run programs for 7 years which shared Korea s economic developmentexperiences with developing country government officials. The program is theInternational Development Cooperation (IDC). The IDC program we planned andoffer now will be a quite practical one; it emphasizes practical knowledge andexperience. Students are asked to actually engage in internship and field studies, inaddition to studies in the classroom. We do not believe that GSP can teach our students alone, and in this regard, we willcooperate with foreign institutions including academia, international organizations,and even NGOs.

5 We do not either believe our program is complete; it requiresfurther refinement and improvement. The program will evolve into a morecomprehensive and practical one as we go along. In doing so, we sincerely inviteyou to join us, so that we learn from each other and improve our program from Sung, Dean of the Graduate School of Pan-Pacific International Studies Kyung Hee University5 (MDGs) 2006 (GNI) (ODA: Official DevelopmentAssistance) 2015.
