Please do not get distracted by your phone or use your earphones which block traffic noise. This is a basic rule but one which is not always adhered to when crossing a road. Discipline and Uniform It is IMPORTANT for our pupils and parents alike to be aware that our code of conduct is very clear with regard to behavior. Furthermore our school uniform is to be worn correctly as is clearly outlined in the diary. We endeavor to instill a sense of pride in our pupils and trust that our parents support us in this. Financial matters Statements have been sent home via the learners. Unless fees have been paid in full, parents should receive a statement of account. For those parents not on the debit order system, please note that the first installment for school fees was due on 31 January 2017.

Please ensure that installments are up to date. We do depend on our school fees for the smooth running of our school. We now also have snapscan as well for ease of payment. 60th Celebrations Easter Festival Advertisers needed Hyde Park High School will be hosting several schools over the Easter Holidays for a multi-disciplinary sports festival. There will be a total of eight schools participating in this event and by placing an advert in our programme and supporting the school it will afford the advertisers far reaching coverage. We are inviting all parents to assist us in sourcing potential advertisers for our A5 programme booklet which will help in offsetting the cost of printing the programme and the running of this event.

All adverts in colour : Back outside cover R1500,00; Full page portrait R800,00; Half page landscape R470,00 or a strip classified ad R100,00 with a maximum of 4 lines of text. Benjamin Franklin Newsletters and communication We do try to get our Newsletters out at least once a month during term time. Parents are to please ensure that they obtain their copies from their children in order to stay in touch with what is happening at school.

The Newsletter is also available on the school s website. We also use the School D6 Communicator an innovative and highly effective way of communicating with parents. The School Communicator keeps you up to date with what s happening at the school. It updates automatically and brings you all the latest news and calendar events. A PC and MAC version is available as well as versions for mobile phones. Please refer to our website for download instructions . I encourage all parents to please download the School Communicator so that you are kept informed of any last minute changes that may take place as a result of unforeseen circumstances. Should you like an email sent to you electronically please email Mr Harris requesting this.

Admissions for next year : 2018 Open Day for 2018 Gr 8 s 7 March 2017 from 16h30 We encourage all our parents to continue to assist us in sourcing quality learners from our feeder area and local schools. Your positive marketing is vital to our school in benefiting from strong academic and sporting applicants. We remind all current parents with Grade 7 children to ensure that they submit their applications in time. The process now includes the online application and will be explained at this event. We also remind all parents that Hyde Park High School is the only Government school to offer the Matric (the exam written by private schools) and that we were also voted the Best Government School in Johannesburg.

Hyde Park High recently attended a marketing event at Parkview Primary school to promote our school to those schools invited for enrolment of Grade 8 s in 2018. Our stand was manned by our Admissions Secretary Mrs M Abel who fielded queries regarding the admissions process for next year. SCHOOL MAJOR PRODUCTION 2017 3 6 May 2017 Rehearsals for our production In the Heights are well under way and we encourage all parents and pupils to ensure that you have your seat booked. This is a South African first for the production to be staged in our country, let alone as a school production and is an energetic, hip-hop infused Latin musical. The tickets will be on sale from the office foyer during breaks and after school from 13 March 2017.

Rehearsals are taking place 3 4 times a week and we look forward to a slick and professional production. Resource payments All resource materials should have been paid for by now with the deadline which was the 3rd February 2017 having passed. Late comers Pupils have been asked to arrive to school timeously and to enter the property immediately on arriving at school rather than gathering in the Loop Road. Parents are to please assist in ensuring that their children are not late for school as this will impact on your child s academic day. Grade 11 Camp It is a well-established tradition of the school that the Grade 11 learners each year attend a leadership and team building camp to prepare for their upcoming leadership as matrics.

The camp also serves as an opportunity to further cement their relationship as a group. The camp has always been one of the highlights of the year and has been immensely successful in the past. I have no doubt that this year will be no different. The camp runs from Thursday 17 August 2017 to Sunday 20 August 2017 at Spirit of Adventure in Magaliesburg and will cost R1 600 per person (including transport, accommodation, food and activities) Payment can be made in a maximum of two equal installments; the first half (R800) by 13 March 2017 and the second (R800) by 22 May 2017. Please note that no learner will be allowed to attend this course unless payment has been made in full by 22 May 2017 and has submitted a signed Consent and Indemnity form.
